I just thought of something, if we rent the disco, I wonder will the dj be comfortable with playing some of our songs for the first dances? Did your TA find out anything bout that? We do have some mixed CD's that we were going to bring, so it would be awesome if they were open to playing some of them

i didn't ask her about the dj's playing list. i assume he wouldn't care. i mean i need him to play certain musci bb/c both of our families are hispanic and i know the dj is not going to know what kind of music to play to keep us going. i plan to give him a play list. are u not planning on renting the steakhouse for a private reception or r u doing the semi-private reception?

Yeah I assume if we are the only ones in the disco the dj wont mind playing whatever we ask of him. I am going to email Dionne and request the 2 hr private reception @ $500 and the rental of the disco for 2 hrs @ $150 per hour. I think this will work perfectly. And I dont think we will bother with a cocktail party or oderves before dinner. Im sure people will find something to occupy themselves for the afternoon before the reception.

Thanks so much for you help, I will keep you updated if we run into any other concerns with Dionne..

OK, JamaicaBride (hi name twin, LOL), and inunez.....you guys have just singlehandedly helped me plan my reception, without even realizing it!!!smile29.gif

I am getting married at RIU Negril on 9/05, and I am super psyched to know we have that option! I just e-mailed Dionne!!! I emailed her about a week ago for certain things, but she hadn't responded, and so I just sent another quick one. From what I have seen/read on other reviews and sites, she can take a while to respond!? I am going through a travel agent as well, and she also told me this about her.

Are you guys doing colors, or bringing colored table cloths or anything for the reception, or just going with what they have?

I look forward to talking with you more !!smile03.gif (Now I"M the cornball, LOL)

Inunez we will be at the resort at the same time I am getting married August 15,2009 the day after how cool is that. I also wanted to do the private reception and do all the things you said but after reading through a lot of people messages I am just going to do the semi private reception dinner and go to the lobby bar with guest and have fun until it is dinner time and then we will go to the disco. I chose the Caprice package for my wedding. I am getting the chairs covered which is $6 per chair. And I will have the Ipod playlist at the dinner. My biggest concern is how will my photos and video come out. We have to talk we are getting married at the same resort just one day apart. I never thought I would actually find someone on DW going to the same destination around the same time. What day are you arriving in Jamaica? I used Liberty Travel for my wedding and I had no problems but when your doing destination it's best to do a lot of things on your own. Thats how I feel anyway.

Dionne does take some time to get back to you but she is only one person taking care of all of us appearently that idea for the two hour reception and then the two hours at the disco for $150 and hour is absolutely great. Dionne did not tell me of this option I am going to call her right now and change my Private reception for 4 hours which cost $1000.00 to the way you said. I already have the steak house upstairs booked for 4 hrs I am going to change that. Are any of you going to do the buterflies release or the doves release?

WOW...JanJan84 that is such a coincidence!! my FI and i are arriving to Jamaica on 8/11. you probably were the 1 who took my date!!! LOL...we had originally booked 8/15 at the Tropical Bay RIU, but becasue the RIU was a little less expensive for our guests we decided to switch. we had already sent out our save the dates with the 8/15 date and wanted to try to keep it the same...but SOMEBODY already had it! j/k. smile03.gif

we should definetly try to meet up! and your from Brooklyn! i live in the Bronx.

i'm really glad Dionne told me about that option. it kind of took a lot to get it out of her. i guess she obviously wants to offer the more expensive option first. although i didn't think the $1000 for 4 hours was too steep. let me know if you have any other questions!

i'm glad we helped somebody! it was really hard to find answers for the RIU Negril. alot of people have gone for the otehr resorts - but not becasue RIU is bad. i have actually been to the Tropical Bay one in Jamaica and it was the best vaacation ever! my FI and i say - if it's not broken then why fix it!

i hope you have a clearer picture now. if you have any more questions...you know where to find us! now you have 3 brides who would have gone before you! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
