Centerpieces - did you bring your own? Do's and don'ts

Recommended Posts

I am having a hard time swallowing the price of centerpieces in Jamaica. I was considering bringing the materials down and having them set up, but I am not sure what problems I may run into doing this. I am not sure if it's worth it. So for the ladies who have done this, do you have any do's and don'ts ?

I brought down clear glass starfish shaped tealight candle holders, and small regular clear and green glass tealight candle holders. That alone took up most of the space in my carryon suitcase. I didn't trust packing glass items in checked luggage so I bought the blumebox cardboard vases instead of glass. In order to get the glass vases I wanted I would have had to bring them down to Mexico so I just ended up skipping the glass. The blumeboxes worked out great since I was able to get them in our wedding colors and got vases for my my bouquets and my BMs bouquets. They were also cheaper than what I would have paid for glass vases. I ended up getting different flowers than what I had requested, but I loved how my centerpieces turned out. We had three centerpieces on each table (we had two long tables) and I just used my bouquet vase as our centerpiece since my husband and I sat at the sweetheart table. The candles were placed all along the tables and rose petals were scattered as well. They also did the same set up with the candles and petals in our reception room and our guests brought the centerpieces with and then took them to their rooms afterward so at least they didn't go to waste.

I know what you mean on prices.....Im not sure what look theme youre going for. We are not going for a beach theme in Hawaii. We want the beauty of the beach location etc...but not a beach wedding. Ours is more of a dramatic old hollywood type of look. But, I am getting many certerpiece elements and shipping them. Im using ostrich feathers in the center pieces, so Im getting those in Los Angeles. Im also using lots of crystals on/in the flowers adn Im getting those here also and shpping. It would have just gotten too out of control to have the hotel get those items. Im sure you can find all kinds of neat things in New York. I'd buy them and take along. You can have everyone in the wedding and going to the wedding take a carry on of items you want to use... good luck

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
