Hello out there....

I just got engaged last week...and am now starting the overwhelming process of planning a wedding. We are really setting our sites on Costa Rica. We've always wanted to go there...

I'm having trouble knowing where to start! It's hard to know who to trust when you are thousands of miles away! Our budget isn't huge, so we are hoping to have a small, intimate wedding w/ about 20 guests.

We would like to rent a private residence or small villa to have everyone stay, and host the reception party.

Any guidance would be really helpful!!

Dear Rickmarcie,

Of coarse it will be a matter of what catches your eye. A single roof or place to hod twenty people may be difficult to find, but there are plenty of options for all you friends to stay near. In Manuel Antonio (beautiful view mountain side places) I would suggest Buena Vista Villas (a little pricey but private, private beach) Casa Fantastica has other surronding houses managed by the same person. In Tamarindo, Cala Luna Hotel is offering great deals, it is a hotel but they have Villas. Great prices and a beautiful location for a wedding. In Malpais, Tropico Latino or La Casona are great. Red Palm Villas have fully furnished Villas. While you search and find places you like, let me know, I would be glad to give youadvice about them. I have been all over the country and know ins-and-outs of many locations. I will give you pros and cons.

Best of luck! Congrats!

I am currently going through this website called OurCostaRicaWedding.com who is also teamed with CostaRicaVacation4Me.com. They put together a proposal package for me based on my particulars and budget. They don't do airfares but they do essentially plan your entire stay complete with tourist stuff to do if you wanted with all necessary transportation in between.

Hola,

I am a Costa Rica bride as well. Despite my user name (I was originally going to have a wedding in Mexico) I am now very excited about my process with the planning. I have just booked a private villa in Dominical Beach for 7 nights in late February 2011. It is a beautiful 10 bedroom compound that can sleep up to 25 people and it is on a cliff looking over the ocean. The beach is also a short walk from the villa!! I will be bringing a friend of a friend as my photographer. And I think I have almost booked my WC...someone local to Domincal. FH and I will then be spending 14 days traveling around the country, visiting places such as Manuel Antonio, Montezuma, Mal Pais, Arenal volcano/ hot springs, monteverde cloud forrest, tortuguero and Puerto Limon on the Caribbean side, and finally, maybe a last night in San Jose...

I am so excited!! I have done a lot of research on different places for weddings on the pacific coast of CR if anyone has questions, let me know!!

Costa Rica was one of top 3 destinations that we were looking at, but the resort I fell in love with didn't really seem children friendly - it may be where we go on our one year anniversary tho :) Anyway - just thought I would share the resort for any brides that haven't picked a resort yet, as it looks absolutely AMAZING and really isn't that expensive. We have not been there before, but FBIL almost bought a property here because he loved it so much!!

Thanks Binzer for starting this thread - there really aren't that many of us Costa Rica brides out there!

I'm planning an August 2010 wedding in the Tamarindo area, my planning is just getting underway, so I don't have much advice I can give yet. I did visit CR last May for vacation, which is where my fiance proposed and we fell in love with the country. Good luck with all the planning ladies!

Hi there,

We're also looking into CR for our destination. We're not 100% tho.

I like the convenience of an AI, for our non adventurous guests (read as FMIL) but I don't want it to be a cookie-cutter AI wedding.

We're doing a destination wedding to avoid the church and hall combo I don't want it replaced with beach and hall combo.

We love drama (as in dramatic locations) can anyone recommend where to start looking in CR to narrow the search down. Searching the whole country from a far is a daunting task.

Hi SillyGirl,

I don't know what your budget is like, but I know there are quite a few wedding planning services that are Costa Rican based that may be able to help you build the type of wedding you want. It seems to be the way to go for those who want a unique wedding in Costa Rica. They may be able to work out a way to have some of your guests stay at an AI and then come up to whereever you want for the wedding.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
