Wedding Color Crisis

For some reason, up until now, my brain has considered my wedding colors and my flowers to be two totally separate things. I just started thinking of the whole picture, and realized that the two things don't match at all!!

 

My wedding colors so far have been chocolate brown and blue, but all that people have seen so far are STDs and invitations.

 

My bridesmaids are wearing brown, and I pictured us all having super vibrant bouquets (orange, fuchsia, and lime green or something). Those colors don't go with blue and brown at all!

 

So now I don't know what to do. Should I change my colors? I haven't bought too much yet...mostly just DIY stuff like ribbon, so I wouldn't be out a ton of money if I switched. The only problem is that if I switch to something like orange and brown, it suddenly becomes a lot harder to find things like favors in appropriate colors (I also have a bit of a starfish theme).

 

Should I change my bouquet idea? I'm not sure I could even do brown and blue flowers b/c I'll be using fresh, local Costa Rican flowers for the most part (and I'm not sure I'd even want a blue bouquet!).

 

Should I just not match? I could emphasize the brown more than the blue, and brown goes with everything, but I feel like everything might still look terrible.

 

So...help! I feel like a total idiot :S

I think you're fine. Brown is a neutral color, and blue goes with orange and fuchia, becuase orange is a complimentary color against blue on the color wheel. Fuchia is still in the same family with the blue-purple, so I think you're ok.

 

Some brides tend to match EVERYTHING, but I think this is overkill. The best is not matching the color precisely. It's about coordinating. Think about your brown and blue as backdrop colors that makes your accent color pop

I am in the same boat as you are! My dresses are aqua. But I wanted bright bouquets with orange, pink,etc. Then last minute decided I like the aqua, chartreuse, and brown color scheme. I am doing parasols instead of bouquets now. I found some that have all the colors. The other alternative is that I will do white and chartreuse flowers. I think you may also want to stick to white and green if you have the brown and blue already. Orange will work, but if its a brighter aqua, and not a pastel blue. I think Aqua, brown, and orange look great together. You said you are doing a starfish theme? So I imagine you have the light blue with the brown, in which case I would do only white and have them tied in blue ribbon.

I don't think you have to change anything! I kind of stumbled on my colors. I used a sandy taupe and some blues for my save the dates. When we found bridesmaid dresses - I fell in love with a french blue, though I had been thinking lilac with purple flowers. So I changed my flowers to be ivories and some light pink. I don't have pink anywhere else but in the bouquet. I used blue and the sandy taupe colors for my invites, but I don't have taupe anywhere else. It's all about coordinating what you want so there's nothing jarring, I think. You have a consistent color scheme with your invites and dresses and your using bright flowers for bouquets - I don't think you need to incorporate all the bouquet colors everywhere too! I guess my only question is where are you using the color blue?

i think it won't matter what color your flowers are since brown is so neutral. just wrap the stems with your color blue ribbon and you're set!

I am also doing chocolate brown and blue as my color scheme with the brown BM dresses; etc..

IMHO, if people have already seen your invites and STD's then you should be somewhat consistant with your theme.

I'm using blue in my OOT bags a lot, and I was planning to have it on my guestbook, place cards, etc.

 

The thing is, I really don't want a white or blue bouquet! I really have my heart set on something bright and funky, and it's hard to totally change the image in my head.

 

The problem I have with just leaving the flowers as-is, is that there won't be any blue or brown whatsoever in the bouquet, so there won't be an element tying it all together. I was also originally planning on buying my bridesmaids some brown and blue jewelry, but now I'm not so sure it'll look good.

 

Maybe I'll try to find a bouquet I like online, and then I can use photoshop or something to do some color tests. I think the brown will work great...it's just the blue that's making this all a bit tricky :S

I think you should do a coral color for flowers, since it is more of a muted pastel, like the lighter blue you are using. Plus...it incorporates your starfish, since they are the same coral color!
