Site Coordinator Vent/Question

So...I bite the bullet and call the resort today because I've sent multiple emails with no response. I've heard from some other brides that this is normal for this place (like so many others) so I tried to be patient, but I'm about to have the STD's designed and I'm not trying to wait any longer than necessary for an actual DATE to put on the things.

After asking for an English speaking rep with my limited spanish, I am placed on hold for a few minutes (I'm not even sweating the money that's tally'ing up while I wait...hey, it's to be expected, I'm cool). Well, finally the coordinator answers (not identifying herself and once again, speaking in Spanish so I have to reiterate my request). She then says it's her, so I say that I am needing information for potentially having my wedding ceremony at the resort. I do specify that it's for 2010 and I just want to reserve the date if possible.

She tells me (ofcourse) that they don't have rates for 2010 yet. I was expecting this, so again..fine. I say "Well, are you reserving dates yet?" And here's where it gets wierd. She says, "No, but we can start taking care of some of the other details like ceremony location, music, menue for the reception.." She told me she would email me the current packages (which I already found online, but anyway) and some general info.

Huh? I can't secure my date, but I can talk place settings with you? lol..is it me or is that backward? I thoroughly expected to be told that we couldn't work on any DETAILS yet until closer to the date, but we could put down deposit to secure the day we wanted. Thats what I was thinking would be logical.

For anyone with a 2010 wedding date, have you had trouble booking your date this way?

My resort was a bit hard to contact; I found it much easier to contact via email since none of them speak very good English.

But, I did book my Aug 2009 wedding in August 2008 without a problem. They could not guarantee me the rate at that time; but they secured the date for me without a problem with a small deposit.

And.. I do find that a bit strange that they will go over details with you but they can't secure a date. Hmmm...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
