New Trend in First Dances Tacky?

Recommended Posts

What do you think in this new trend of making first dances into a perfomance and posting it on youtube? It never really insipred anything in me either way, but I thought this article was interesting:

Money News:- Weddings' First Dance Spins Out of Control - AOL Money & Finance

We're not even having dancing at our wedding, we are having other entertainment. I think the whole YouTube thing is lame. I don't understrand YouTube in general though. I mean, as a way to share videos with family and friends is one thing, but to create things with the target of being popular on YouTube is weird to me. If not done for YouTube, it looks fun, but I don't think FI would go for it!

First dances should be about the couple, not the couple and their cast members. I'm all for people doing a dance that expresses their personality, but when it involves doing a production as described in the article ( complete with auditions and understudieshuh.gif), that's completely over the top, and yes, tacky. If people really want to throw on a production, they should save it for later during the reception. A wedding should be about celebrating love and a new union not 10 seconds of fame on youtube. Personally, we'll be dancing an unchoreographed argentine tango. I'll admit to having picked out my wedding dress and shoes with that first dance in mind. However, our guests won't expect anything less than that since we did after all meet in a tango class!

I guess I'm the odd man out here. I don't get the whole thing with posting on YouTube, I wouldn't post mine on YouTube, but the idea of a dance like that is really neat. Aaron and I actually talked about doing a "different" kind of a dance because we're both pretty brutal dancers and both of us are really laid back and don't care about following tradition. I'd consider doing that dance! Yes, the first dance is about the couple, but we -as a couple - are all about our family and friends and we love to draw a good laugh. I'm 100% for this.

...but I wouldn't ever post it on YouTube lol.

Very interesting that the couple chose thrillr and spent lots of money on a choreographer (sp). I dont care that much about the first dance. i would rather spend more money on a video of the wedding than a choreographed dance.

I think someone posted this video a while ago and I cringed thinking that I really hope I don't know anyone who would do this. My fiance spends tons of time looking at funny videos, but I agree I don't get the excitement of UTube, of course it took years for my friends to finally convince me to get a myspace and that is only because I live so far away and the time difference makes communication difficult

What?!? No, never seen or heard of it, but I don't know if I'd watch it. For a bride, I've never really liked watching wedding themed shows oddly enough!

FI and I would totally bust out in a fun dance in the middle or end of our first dance! I would love to put a little bit of "The way you make me feel" in the dance - just for fun. We are a goofy ass couple so anything too lovey-dovey like a long romantic first dance would be weird for us. But I would NEVER post a video somewhere. NEVER EVER EVER.

My MOH's sister got married this fall and in the middle of the father/daughter dance the song switched to HandJive from Grease. It was so fun and cute. It was a total suprise to everyone, including my MOH and the mom. Her dad had been sneaking up to her house and practicing with her for weeks. It was so sweet because he is not a good dancer.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
