The Sunset Da Mona Lisa was awesome.  Such a beautiful venue.  I am so glad I chose the SDML.  I did not want to be on a beach with a bunch of people staring at our wedding.  The restaurant was perfect because we were on a private terrace.  The food was great, service was great too.  It was the perfect evening.  The pictures turned out amazing.  If you want more info pm me.

We were married at SDML on June 30, 2011 and it was amazing! David (the events manager) was amazing to work with and delivered on everything!! The food was amazing, the venue is gorgeous, and the service was awesome! We had our ceremony on the terrace, the dinner in the City Lights area, and then we rented out the Sunset Lounge upstairs privately for our party/dancing. Our guests were amazed at how beautiful SDML was and everyone raved about the food. We were originally going to get married at the resort we were staying at (Barcelo) but decided we didn't want the cookie cutter resort wedding and were not happy with how the wedding department there was treating us (never returning emails or phone calls, wedding coordinators quitting, etc). In the end we ended up spending more having the wedding at SDML, but it was totally worth it! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask :)

SDML is a beautiful place to get married and so many guests are blown away by the views and how different it is.  The food is fantastic and weddings there are stunning.  The prices come out to about the same as doing them at so many resorts in town.  Yes, you can get packages at resorts that include some things like flowers, photographers, etc but it depends on what your budget it and what things are important to you.  I do not always recommend the packages and find it best to bring in other local vendors for things. If you do side by side pricing comparison and fore go the packages you normally are paying about the same. By booking a block of rooms at a resort, normally they do not charge location fee's for your event and there is not need to buy the packages.  You are not always saving by purchasing the packages.  I have pricing information on SDML if you need it and have done weddings and events there so know it well.

The price all depends on how many guests you have and what you all want included. You will have to hire an outside wedding coordinator as they do not provide one for you like most resorts. So those, depending on how many guests again, range in price from $750-$2000 on average. If you want to do open bar for your guests, SDML charges $24 per person per hour for the first hour, $21 per person per hour for the second hour, and so on. We are doing 2 hours of open bar so that's $45/person, times 30 people.

We have decided to just do their minimum consumption, which for the small terrace is covered by the two hours of open bar we chose to do. You can also do appetizers after the ceremony, with our without drinks, and that all depends on how many you want.

Then for the dinner, which we are not doing, it depends on what you choose for a meal. I think with everyone, two hours of drinks, appetizers, dinner and cake you can estimate approx $120-$150 per person. They charge $8 per person for the cake...plus tax and gratuity. All of the prices are subject to 11% tax and 18% gratuity which adds up!

Then you have to add in your DJ, flowers, chairs and setup, transportation......they've got all kinds of things for you to choose from! Happy planning!

No problem. We are doing our dinner back at our resort, the RIU Santa Fe. Just renting out one of the semi-private restaurants.

I am using Tammy Wolff and she has been great so far, very helpful! Her email is tammy@caboweddings.mx. Again, it is based on how many people you plan on having. She charges a coordination fee based on how much you are having her plan and how many guests....I think she estimated 30 people at $1,000 and 31-75 people was $1,250? Somewhere around there. She is definitely willing to answer any and all questions!

You could definitely have a fabulous wedding for $15000 even with your travel and stay. We are planning a big at home reception otherwise we could have splurged a little more on the actual reception in Cabo, but this way I can still have the ceremony I want with the reception I want!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
