Where to have our wedding?

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

My FI and are in the process of deciding on where to have our wedding. Originally we were looking at Mexico or our home town of Houston but recently wamed up to the idea of Jamaica. My FI's family if from out of state and would need to travel anyways so a DW seems more and more like the right choice. Mexico would be nice but so many people we know have been there before and I am very fearful of giving blood in Mexico (let alone the US).

So we were hoping to get some feedback from people on the forum about their Jamaica experience. We would be expecting between 50-70 people so a larger resort would most likely be the best. Also my FI's family likes to drink a lot so an all inclusive is a must. :) If possible a private reception would work the best for us as well.

We are open to any and all ideas and thank you all in advance for sharing your ideas.

I chose Jamaica for a few reasons. I had looked into Dominican Republic, but the thought of having to translate all documents into English was to overwhelming for me. I then checked Mexico and like you there is no way they are taking my blood. So to me Jamaica was the easiest for paperwork and I fell in love with ROR after reading reviews and seeing pictures.

Good luck with your search

We chose Jamaica because it is usually more affordable and we didn't want our guests to have to spend a whole lot to come to our wedding. Our family and friends are spread out across the US, so just like your's, they would have to travel for a wedding anywere. We chose the ROR based on the reviews and pics we saw here.

We are more and more liking the idea of Jamaica especially after reading this forum. There are just so many resorts to choose from and I don't know where to start. We are meeting this weekend with my parents to make a final decision on a Houston wedding (my hometown) or a DW wedding. Thank you all for the info. Also any positive resort info you have is greatly appreciated.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
