Parents' Gifts

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I'm flustered about this whole parents' gifts concept.

Ive figured out that I want to get my mother a swarovski crystal figurine as a Thank You/Parent's Gift (she spent about four hours hand making my veil plus she's doing my dress alterations, attending the wedding and helping out financially), but I'm stuck on the other parents!

My step-dad will be walking me down the aisle and I would like to give him a keepsake that won't just end up in a drawer.

I don't have a close relationship with my bio-father, although as a wedding gift he paid for FI's airfare to Cancun and although he wont make the wedding, he'll probably make an appearance at the AHR.

And FI's parents will not be attending the wedding, however have offered their help for the AHR.

FI is all about saving money and doesn't see the point of giving parents a gift, so I want to find a sweet keepsake for them. Any suggestions? Would having a photobook printed for FI's parents be adequate? Or a photo in a nice picture frame? OR should we go the traditional route with hankerchiefs/cigars? Please help!

i think a photobook would be very nice, and can be somewhat inexpensive. i hear ya on the fiance thing ... mine's like, "we have to give *them* gifts?" LOL! we will probably do some sort of photo-based gift as well.

one thing i know i'm doing is using this quote (i have no idea where i stole it from, but i instantly loved it) for my father's gift. i will probably pair it with a pic of a sandcastle, and a photo of us together:

"Eventually the princess moved out of the castle and went into another line of work. But her father is still a king, and always will be." :)

i wanted to add that i plan on getting my parents (and bridesmaids as well) some sort of excursion or spa thing at the resort. i think in general, experiences and memories are better than trinkets.

Ahh! I had to let out a squeal at that quote! I love it! I don't know that I have any pics of my step father and I. I may have to steal it to coincide with maybe a photo of the two of us walking down the aisle :) Sweet! Sorry for being a clepto, but thanks a million!

haha did you miss the part where i said i had stolen it as well? LOL!

it has sorta "inside joke" meaning for me & my dad too ... for one, he used to call me his little mafia princess (LOL, we are so not *that* italian!) and also in a famous argument between him & my mom, he once stated that he was "king of this castle and no one was going to raise their voice to him" (which my mom followed by *whispering* some obscenities at him, which was followed by bursts of laughter from everyone, thus ending the argument!) ... funny how an argument can end up being one of your favorite memories of your parents, LOL! (they'll be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary this year)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
