sweat, baby powder and satin/silk

Okay-

 

I just tried on my dress for the first time and while in the salon I was sweating and my salon assistant said "oh don't worry it is just because you are under these hot lights, it won't be that way on your wedding", she then told me that my dress fit so well I wouldn't need additional support under it.

 

I looked at her like she was crazy I said "I will be standing under the Mexico sun at 5pm in the afternoon, I am going to sweat more"

 

She told me to cake, she literally said "CAKE" on baby powder under my dress. All over, under my arms, around my waist, between my boobs, between my legs on my belly. She said put power and a lot of it every where. That way it will soak up any moisture and keep it from going through my dress and my dress also won't stick to me.

 

Okay ladies, This is where I need advise from the ones who have stood under the Mexico sun and melted in their dresses.

 

What did you do? Do you suggest doing this?

 

I know it doesn't sound pretty.

Well I put baby powder in my sneakers, sock and undies when I go to the gym, it helps alot.

As for your wedding dress, I would just want to make sure it does not stain!

haha EWWWWW ... all i can think of is that episode of friends when ross had the leather pants ... the "paste" ...

 

and i do sympathize ... i ended up getting a whole lot more dress than i set out for, and i was sweating in the bridal shop in november ... i kept saying that i was going to DIE in that dress in the mexican sun, but no one had any sympathy for me haha they told me i would have to suck it up because i looked beautiful in it. and my mom and sister and best friend were all crying.

 

with any luck we'll all just look dewy and glowing, rather than sweaty and gross? LOL

I'm really hoping someone with experience will chime in here...

 

My dress is poly-taffeta and has a lot of extra material because of the way it's "rouched" all over. I didn't really give any thought to the sweat factor because I figured I'd be sweating no matter what I wore...but the other day my TTD came in the mail and I tried it on and was like uh oh...IT'S SOOO LIGHT! I guess I just never had anything light to compare mine to. All the dresses I tried on were kinda heavy. I really want to wear my TTD as my regular dress now...but already spent $500 at David's Bridal for my other one (and still have issues with it...you may remember my DB dilemma from a recent post). And also, my DB is white, which goes much better with everything else in the wedding...the TTD is ivory so I'm afriad it wouldn't go. SO I guess I have to keep things the way they are...BUT I'M GOING TO NEED LOTS OF BABY POWDER!

I made an effort when picking out dresses to go w/ lighter dresses, and I had a great consultant who really made an effort to find me great dresses for mexico. Personally I wouldn't CAKE baby powder, maybe a little. Could you imagine caking it on and then your man lifting your dress for the garter and patches of powder cause you caked it on and sweated! Ewww! I'm going to be down there a week before the wedding, so I'm hoping that my body will start to adjust to the heat. It usually takes me about a week when we go down to our San Diego house.

 

Botox injections will actually eliminate sweating. Also if you don't already start applying deodarant in the morning and before bed, this helps keep sweating to a min. You can use the spray deodarant for everything below the waist.

i was going to suggest the spray anti-perspirant as well. when i play soccer i use the soft-solid kind of secret down in the thigh area, and it works so great. but for larger areas i bet the spray would be fantastic. i wouldnt mess with the baby powder because it literally is so messy, but the spray anti-perspirant would really be a non-messy way to do the same thing.

Hi Kathy,

 

I was trying on dresses & asked the consultant the same thing-- she also recommended baby powder but didn't specifically say "cake it on". I've heard many times that if you are getting really hot to go to a sink & run cold water over your wrists & forearms if possible. That is supposed to cool your body down quickly-- you could just sneak into the bathroom for a make-up "touch up" & a "cool down" for you.

 

Also, there are some stronger anti-persperants out there-- one is over-the-counter called drysol. You apply it at night and can use it on your underarms, feet, & hands I think. There is also a prescription anti-persperant but I don't know the name of it.

 

I'll just keep my fingers crossed for a gentle breeze for your wedding day!

Does anyone know more about that Drysol? I was thinking of going to a dermatologist and inquiring about it. Do you know if you can use it on your face?

 

I believe that I sweat more than is typical/normal, especially on a few places of my body (oddly, not really my armpits), but I am sooooo afraid about my face. I sweat profusely on my upper lip and forehead (I've always been that way) and I will sweat on my upper lip if it's 78 degrees out. You can imagine what that does to my makeup.

 

I also sweat an unusual amount on my back (why it's so strange) so I think I will definitely try the spray on antipersperant there.

 

I've never been motivated to do anything about it until now. I don't want my wedding pictures to look awful.
