Hi HilaryDale,

We were also considering ROR but after reading about BRB, we have had the same thoughts and are considering switching over to BRB. There are a few recommendations on this site - search for Breezes Runaway Bay - and several people have been there. I haven't heard many bad things yet.

I'm particularly wondering about the food - does anyone have any comments about whether it the food is any good at BRB?

Thanks!

I don't want to be a downer but.....

We just got home from ROR in January and when we were checking in at the airport to come home we got approached by a girl who saw me with my garment bag for my dress and she asked about our wedding. We had a fab experience, start to finish. She said they had not been so lucky. The resort was not very acommodating, they lost power multiple times through their week and it was for lengthy periods of time. They lost all water for an entire day and when our flight from Montego Bay was delayed 18 hours their hotel would not help out by letting them keep their rooms longer. They ended up in the hotel lobby the entire time waiting out the delay. Their tour rep did not help them at all during their delay and it was up to them to figure things out. I'm sure some of their disappointment was due to their tour company but alot to do with the hotel. This was BRB. They said they did not enjoy the food but they did say they had a nice wedding. This is not my info but it is straight from the mouth of the bride!

I did see the Ocho Rios Sandals resort (from the water) and it also looked very nice and intimate, if you have no kids coming with you. ROR is HUGE.

Hope that helps a bit.

Hilary,

Picking the right hotel is difficult...I'm still in that stage lol...it all depends on what type of hotel you are looking for and how much you want you or your guests to spend.

BRB is farely inexpensive and the hotel is not enormous like the ROR. It is more intimate and you would be able to see your guests daily. Never stayed at BRB but I did stay at Breezes Bahamas. The staff at that hotel said BRB was nicer and hopefully the service is better:) They have a great entertainment staff at Breezes which makes your day lots of fun!

It is nice that they sent you that wedding info so fast! Keep me informed and let me know what you decide. I was originally thinking BRB but am leaning towards the new Iberostar in Montego Bay now

Good luck!

Hi Hilary!

ROR was perfect for us and our group. We had a large group of 45 so we needed a bigger hotel. We didn't want to be tripping over everyone every day. We had a few people that brought their families and wanted it to be a family holiday with our wedding as a bonus so we wanted everyone to have space. Being that the resort and beach are so big we just picked a spot on the beach and that was the meeting point every day. Anyone who wanted company joined us there and anyone who wanted alone time just found beach chairs somewhere else. It worked great for us. The wedding location was beautiful and the food was outstanding! Best sushi I ever had was in Jamaica!!! There is a very yummy jerk chicken hut right on the beach that serves something different every day. Chicken, shrimp, ribs, sausage, pork, they jerk everything!

We were very happy at ROR with service, entertainment, food, rooms, and wedding. The only thing that sucked was we had to use Skyservice. They are brutal.

Pick what works for your group, no matter what you'll have a blast!

I'll help with more info about ROR if you need!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
