How much can a dress be altered?

Recommended Posts

What kind of dress is it? It's going to depend partially on the material, and if there is any beading or boning it is going to be a lot more difficult as well. If you have an extremely simple dress you can probably alter it almost infinitely, but if it's a typically elaborate wedding dress it could be tricky. One size won't be a problem I'm sure, but you will probably need to stop losing weight soon, since your wedding is in May and you don't want to risk getting it altered last minute.

Anyways, good luck!

And when I ordered it I asked her if I should order it in the size down because I planned on losing at least 20 lbs. She said no, that she would rather I order it in the size I am now because altering that much wouldn't be a problem at all. Hopefully it's the same for you! Can we see a pic of your dress?

Hmmmm That sounds dicey. The bottom can likely be brought in easily, but the top, with the embellishments may not look as good when you severely alter it. I would take your dress into a seamstress for a quick consult - or call the original seamstress to see what they think. They did the original alterations so have an idea of how much farther you can go.

Congrats on the wight loss....sorry it's impacting your dress : )

Does your dress have bust lines? If so I was told my dress could only be altered 2 sizes because if the take it in too much the bust lines would be over your bust. I would call the salon you bought it from they should be able to tell you how much it can be altered.

The more I think about it the more I think i'll need a new dress and i'll be gutted. I nearly bought the size down from what I got but aunt had a go at me and said i needed the bigger one - now I wish i'd just said poke off i'll do what I want but she had been battering my head for hours and I just wanted to go home lol

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
