I think that both my cats are sick! :(

So, all of the sudden one of my cats has started coughing. More like wheezing with a cough at the end. At first I thought maybe he was just having hair balls, but nothing was coming out and now my other cat has started doing the same thing. I made a vet appt, but its not until Wed. They seem fine otherwise, acting fine and eating and everything. Just this annoying cough. How the heck do indoor cats that have no contact with other animals get a cough? Its weird. They are 8 years old and have never been sick. I know its just a cough, but I hate having to wait until Wed to see a dr.

ahh poor little kitties! I hope they get better over the weekend & maybe you won't have to take them to the vet afterall!

My cats do that sometimes when they have a hairball they can't cough up. Sometimes they'll just cough up liquid, sometimes nothing at all. But not long afterwards (sometimes a day or so) there's a big hairball waiting for me, usually on my bed

 

Whatever is causing them to cough, I hope it's nothing serious and that they get better soon

They could have an upper respitory(sp?) infection. If that's the case then the Vet will ust give you meds. Or it could be hairballs. As long as you have your Appt. at the Vet and they are eating, drinking and going to the Bathroom, they should be ok

Hope all is well! The FI and I where talking about if something was wrong with our baby, we both said we'd take on a 2nd job to pay for it!

My cat has had this too. When he does cough they tell us its an Upper Respiratory Infection and give us meds. Don't worry the meds aren't expensive. It's just liquid medicine. It just sucks giving it to them. Good luck hope they get better soon.

If it's upper respiratory, they might just need amoxicillin. If your cats tend to have hairballs, you can put some hairball remedy paste on the foot and they lick it off. You can buy that over the counter. It might be worth it to you to feed them a type of dry food for hairball sufferers.

yup - sounds like an upper respiratory infection - my 2 cats got each other sick also! just some meds that they don't like taking....good luck!

my boy cat has allergies! he sneezes and coughs all the time. but he is fine, and he has had it since he was a kitten. his poor nose is always runny and pink, he will sneeze like 6-7 times in a row (this is mean, but its so cute!).

 

but if both your kitties just picked up the cough it sounds like what the other girls described. you are a good kitty mommy taking them in! let us know how the appt. goes today!
