Sand AND shell ceremony

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to figure out what to do for the unity part of the ceremony. I like the sand ceremony, but our colors are hot pink and bright green, so I don't picture keeping that out in our home. So FI and I were talking about this the other night and we came up with a sand and shell ceremony. I'm going down to St. Lucia a few days before him, so I can collect shells. When he comes to the island, he can collect some sand. Then we can blend them together. We thought this would be a cute idea. Has anyone done this or have an opinion about?

Kristy do you want to keep the shells? I'm asking because i can't remember where i read this but there was a shell ceremony. Guests all pick out a shell when they are being seated, or have a shell on their seat and then there is a "shell blessing" said and then after the ceremony everyone went and threw their shell in the water for the bride and groom. I am going to look it up. It was wherever I was reading about ceremony ideas. If I find it I will PM you but you might google shell ceremony, or shell blessing or something like that. I think it's a neat idea. I may even use it.

We're going to do the shell blessing at the end as well. We're not sure if we're going to have 30 shells with a one word blessing already written on each one (trust, love, happiness, etc.) or if we should let everyone choose what they would like to write. Or maybe we'll leave them blank. Regardless, we're doing that!

For the other, yes, we would like to keep the shells and sand.

i don't know about mexico in general, but it's popular for destination weddings, as the unity candle idea doesn't generally work outdoors with the wind, and the sand lends itself to the beachy thing. the wedding coordinator at dreams cancun was familiar with it, and even sent me the wording they usually use.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
