My $70 (plus $70 shipping) wedding dress is here!

Recommended Posts

Okay, so here is the update:

Since getting the dress, I have started to think that I needed to go a whole different direction (less poofy, more body conscious) and have gone into Defcon Four thinking about what the hell I am going to do within the next two months about a g.d. wedding dress.

What is wrong with me?

Should I just get that one altered? I'm sure I'll get over this and be fine with it.

My mom said she would totally foot whatever REAL wedding dress I want, but I just think it's ridiculous to spend a lot of $$ on something you will seriously only wear once. I am just way too practical/cheap to be a beautiful bride, I guess.

What a crap week.

Okay, enough of the gloom. Just an update!

Laura, have you gone to any bridal shops and tried on any dresses to get an idea of what you really want??

This is what I did and then I looked for the dresses on ebay, and I ended up buying one that was a similar style to ones I had tried that I liked

but sometimes you can find the exact dress too.

Another option, which might be a really good one for you if you don't want to spend a lot, have you checked out davids bridal??

They have a lot of different styles and a lot of different prices, and they ususally have sales every few weeks, so you'll be able to save even more.

Don't wear a dress you hate, but if you like it and think you can be happy with it, then get it altered. But if you really think you don't want it don't bother with the alterations.

Right now I am in the same situation as you. I ordered a dress from ebay (I haven't received it yet) it was $40 and I figure I can do some alterations if need be. Its not that I can't afford a more expensive dress its that I decided to get married on the beach to escape a traditional wedding. I want to be relaxed with my feet in the sand and comfortable in a dress that I am not going to worry about. The dress you have right now has some great aspects to it. Look at alterations as the top half of the dress is fantastic. I think that the wedding is not all about the dress, its about having a great time with your friends and family. You will look fantastic to everyone regardless. As I said, feet in the sand, flower in your hair... you will be a beautiful bride. I refuse to spend hundreds of dollars on a dress that no one is really going to care about. Especially me. Hopefully my ebay dress works out. If not I plan on making it work any way I can!

Thats just my opinion. I wish you all the best!!

Laura, the dress is really pretty but I think you are right about the poofyness, if you want something more simple you should see what the seamtress can do for you and also check out some bridal shops just find out the styles you like on you.

I think your dress is so pretty. But if you really aren't feeling it, it doesn't hurt to look for something else. You can always sell the ebay dress. Alterations are an option... but depending on what you have done can get pricey unless you know someone willing to do it for you for free or cheap.

I had the same issues about not wanting to spend lots of money on a dress. My original dress (now reception dress) was $80 and then I got a more traditional wedding dress on ebay after I had second thoughts for $70.

I actually had fallen in love with a Watters dress, but luckily, I didn't have time left to order that for my wedding!

You can try ebay again for a less poofy dress. Also places like Norstroms and JCrew have beachy dresses that are pretty inexpensive!

Thanks, ladies.

I've been looking online at all the discount places, I also found a couple of Pronovias dresses I liked that someone's selling new on eBay, I posted on another thread, but here they are:

My mom and I are going dress shopping (ugh) again this Saturday, so I can try things on that might be similar and see how I like them. If I can't make myself like any dress, though, I'm taking the too-big dress to my tailor.

I have to tell you guys, I am really struggling in my head about spending any more money on this. I mean, really. A dress you only wear once? But my mother is being pretty insistent that I fall in love with whatever I wear, so here we go.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
