Help!  Dissapointed with dress pictures.  Any advice is appreciated!

Garniner sent me pictures of my dress yesterday.  It is different material than the original.  I think what I like best about the original dress pictures is the look of the soft satin material (see last 3 pics).  In the Garniner dress, it looks like they put a sheer material over the entire dress (see first few pics).

I don't know much about dress making, but would there be the satin material underneath the sheer stuff??  I'm wondering if they can just remove the outer sheer material.  It looks like they attached the lace detail on the bottom to the sheer material, so I would have to get them to do that to the satin part.

I really like the matte satin that they used for chris' dress (pg 205).

Chris - did it take them long to remake your dress in a different material?  Also, did they charge you less for the second dress?  I am also wondering if I get them to remake it, if I should buy both, just in case.

I am starting to get in a time crunch.  We leave on January 12th.

I would also get them to remove the ruffle just under the waist (I don't think it turned out right).  And add the ribbon to the seam under the bust and waist/hip area.

So...I think my options are to either:

-get them to remove sheer material, and hope for a beautiful dress underneath, or

-get them to remake the dress - as long as they could do it within a week or so, or

-should I take it as it is, see how it looks on me,  and get a seamstress to make any changes needed.

Bonnie - I'm hoping to get your advice, too!  I am also, wondering if I am wrong about the material and if the original dress has the sheer over top and maybe I don't notice it because it's so fitted??

Below, is the Garniner dress

And here is the original. (you can get a good look at the material in this picture below)

Yesterday I got an email that said my dress shipped.  I was wondering about how long it took everyone to get there dress from China.  I know it will be a little different based on state, just wanted to get a general idea.

I used Moonbasabridal.com and I'm a little bummed that they didn't send a picture of the finished product.  Now its like Christmas,  waiting to see what's in the box.  UGH!!!!!!

My dress took just over a week to get to Ontario from China. The one thing you have to know is that they may have generated the shipping documents but not shipped yet. So just track it. I had pictures before it was sent and I still felt like a little kid on Christmas because you can't really tell much from the picture and even then it's hard until you actually try it on.

Hi, girls! My name is Lígia and I'm from Brazil. After reading almost all of this thread, I decides to order a knock-off from Monica Bridal. This is the dress I chose: http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?style=A3454

I've already bought a dress from romanticgowns.com, but, although the dress looks exactly like the picture, I think I ordered it on a larger size (sizing in Brazil is different) and it looks kinda big on me. Since this knock-off is such a good price, I think it's worth the try... what do you say? ;)

Terilina,

I think the ruffles under the bodices are actually flowers, and there is a sheer tulle over the skirt (we can see it in the last pic, when that chick lift her dress, you can see the tulle layer.

Giving the time limit, and the high volume of shipments during holiday season, it is better to get it now versus to remake the whole dress.

Terilina,

I agree with the other poster, that original dress you posted does actually have an overlay over the skirt, so I think your dress maker did actually make it correctly according to the picture. If you look closely at all of the pictures of the inspiration dress, the top is more shiny satin and the skirt starting at the hip where there is the ribbon type detail, below that it is a different look because of the organza overlay.  I think it looks a little different on your dress on the mannequin because it isn't as tight in the pic as it is on the actual bride wearing the inspiration dress.

I agree with asking them to add the ribbon detail at the bust and waist, as far as the flower (ruffle) just below the waist, I think it looks fairly similar to the inspiration dress...for my taste it is a little odd on both versions of the dress so if it were mine I'd remove it.  Either way, I think it is a beautiful dress.

From an outsiders perspective I think they did a decent job replicating it considering they only have a few photos to look at, not the actual dress. I'd be worried about a re-make, not only with time being a factor but simply because I think they may have replicated the best they can based on the pictures.

good luck!  Would love to see a pic on you once you have it!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
