How was the shipping time from when you ordered? Did you get charged any duty, taxes or brokerage fees coming into canada? How much do they charge for veils?

Hi Lisa,

Another Canadian member who ordered from Gianinar said that they delivered it via TNT from China and it arrived at her door by UPS. She said she got a bill from TNT for $25 and that was it. Shipping was very fast.

Mine is in alteration stages then they'll be sending it to me in Ontario. I will definetly post here what (if any) the additional postage costs are for me, but I don't expect mine for another month or so. :)

Thanks Bree

I am in Brampton. i think i am going with Monica Bridal as I has sent an email to Gianinar and they took too long to respond. Also Monica Bridal was cheaper. The only thing i am worried about is they ship via ems which sometimes looses packages but my wedding is not till next april so i should be ok if something were to go wrong and i wanted to order the original!

Yes, I have heard that EMS is not as reliable, but it is delivered by Canada Post once it gets here - so atleast you don't have to worry about some ridiculous brokerage fees. UPS has the WORST brokerage fees - I'm crossing my fingers.

The veil costed around $40-$50, it is a 4-5 meters long mantilla veil with the same lace and beadings as my dress.  I didn't pay any taxes and duty ( I think the custom randomly picks which package to check and charge).  It took 4 biz days to ship from China to Montreal and the dressmaker tracked it.  I had it sent to my parents' place, and I didn't know it arrived until the dressmaker told me over the chat that someone called "Ming" (my dad) signed for the package.

Thanks ladies! i guess I will be crossing my fingers that they don't check my package! Ah well for the cost of the dress i guess it is not a big deal really.

Mocha I am going to be ordering my dress soon and apparently it only takes like 10days to make and then another 5 to ship so if you aren't in a hurry i will let you know how it looks when i get it. So far the communication and service has been outstanding. They have this chat thing where you can talk to them immediately. Must easier than through email i think! And if I am hesitant at all about the dress i am just going to order the original, use the cheap one as the TTD and sell the original after to try and get some money back.

That sounds like a great idea Lisadias. Please let me know as soon as you receive your package. Also, I order a lot of tech stuff from China, and they usually mark it as a gift with no value in order to avoid custom fees. I usually track my packages and am always amazed at how quickly they arrive.

I'm going to a Maggie Sottero trunk show this weekend, so hopefully I find the dress of my dreams. I don't think I will tell anyone, my mom included, that it is a mail order dress.

And I bet no one will even know the difference!! I spoke with Monica Bridal again this morning and sent over all my details including measurements. They are including a petticoat to give the a-line effect of the dress and sending me a veil as a present. It mostly has appliques and lacing on it so it probably won't match my dress but I can always add beading to it after if i want. Not sure if I even want a veil either as i have a tiara that my friend gave me to wear and i really like the idea of a flower on the side where the hair is pulled back. I am going to pay for the dress shortly but I am just waiting for the dollar to go up a bit as it took a nose dive in the last week

I saw your post on bestdestinationwedding.com - I actually purchased the knock-off dress you posted on the right (Maggie Sottero) from a maker in China.  When it arrived, it was BEAUTIFUL, but way too small for me.  My fault, I sent a size request rather than measurements.  Anyway, it is hanging in my closet and I ordered another one from the same maker, different style.  Would be interested in selling the first one, just for what it cost me ($120).  It's a US size 12 if you can make that work...let me know if you are interested!

Thanks!

Brenda

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
