I have been browsing this thread since I got engaged, it is absolutely fascinating to read all of the experiences of brides kind enough to share their dresses!

I have decided to go ahead and order my dress from China. There are two dresses that I have tried on and loved...firstly the Sottero and Midgley Phoebe, with a request for beads instead of sequins and detachable lace straps!

I have been quoted USD $299 from Dressilyme and $189 from Babyonline @ DHgate.

I want it in ivory though, the dress looks kinda grey in the photos? Even though the maggie website says it is ivory... Do you think the Dressily/babyonline would make it ivory or with a grey tinge like the pictures? I'm not sure how to explain to them what I mean!

The second dress is the Pronovias Barroco (also with detachable lace straps), but I'm worried the tulle would be scratchy.

I have so many questions, if any ladies can help I'd love to hear your thoughts:

1) Which dress do you prefer? For reference, I am 6ft tall without shoes. Size 4-6 in US sizes according to a conversion chart, 8-10 in uk sizes.

2) Do you prefer the phoebe with or without the sash/brooch under the bust?

3) Do you think Dressily and Babyonline are both capable of these dresses? Which would be more suited to which dress in your opinion?

4) What sort of neckline do you think would like best on me? This is a hurriedly snapped pic of me in a straight neckline dress, bridal shops in my area are SO hot on no pics! Its the only dress pic we have managed to sneak - please forgive the quality!

Sorry for such a long post, I'd love to hear your opinions!

maggie soretto's Pheobe is placed 2nd on my top 10 list with Mori Lee's 3124 being number one... you are the first person to post that dress on here im reallllyyyyy in love with it.. but i plan on having my dress made by jasmines... you should stick to the sweetheart neck line, gives you a nice curvy look. i've heard alot of great things about dressilyme. maybe you should give them a try... please post pics and keep me updated.. i would LOVE to see how it turned out.

From a distance it looks okish but because of the way it's made, it's incredibly stiff and itchy.  There are about 3-4 layers of netting in some places as it seems she's made the basic shape of it, added a second layer and then glued/stitched the appliques on top of that.

As you can see, it's not very well done at all.  The edges for the lace is raw and ragged.  In some places where it's been trimmed too closely it's been cut and then in most places it looks like this.  Not great.

1000

Some bits are barely tacked on and again you can see the raw edges all over the top.

1000

The seams are also really badly done.

Okay so enough of that.  I'm sure we can agree it's pretty rubbish.  On to the dress itself.

While slightly less offensive, it's still not great.  You can tell it was a rushed job as things are just tacked on all over.

Here you can see the lacing on the back.  It's hard to tell in the photo but it's been done in a really flimsy fabric.

1000

Again this picture was turned sideways for some reason.  This is the only real detail on the dress, when I ordered it I purposely picked something I thought looked fairly simple to minimize the chance of it getting messed up.  As you can see the belt is only tacked on with a few stitches.

1000

Ofcourse this means it's pulls funny when you put it on.  I thought maybe I could just take it off but it's stitched in properly on the back along the laces so I don't think I can.  This is potentially fixable at least.

1000

1000

This is the top of the bodice where the fabric crosses over, unless it's pulled really tightly it sort of bubbles and you can see where the fabric underneath was sewn.

1000

Here's a pic of the dress as a whole.

1000

Overall it's made of pretty cheap fabric but I can deal with that, I wasn't expecting something amazing.  The main things that bother me are 1) it's not what we agreed on, she was meant to put some tulle underneath to give it a bit of fullness but that's obviously not there and 2) she was meant to send me pictures of the progress which never happened despite me asking MANY times.  The dress is clearly rushed what with things being just tacked on but maybe a seamstress can fix it.  There are issues with the way the lacing goes at the bottom, there's some kind of flimsy boning down the sides of the lacing that ends before the laces do and it creates a funny bump so it looks like I've got a duck tail.  To be honest though, I'm so discouraged with the dress I'm inclined to just try and find a department store dress.

As for the jacket.. I don't even know what to say about that, it's just really badly made and not usable at all.  Oh and it's a creamy sort of ivory colour.. the dress is stark white.

I also ordered a veil because I thought this would be a good way to ensure the colours matched.  Getting them made by the same person you would think they would try to make everything in the same colour but no, the veil is also ivory.  I don't care so much about this myself as it's not that noticable and I'll only have it on a short time anyway but I know some girls wouldn't be very impressed.

So at best I'm on a mission to find a bolero or shrug and potentially a whole new dress of a rack somewhere.

Communication at first was great.  I sent pictures, she told me what would work and what wouldn't and was very quick to reply.  However as soon as I made payment that went out the window.  I asked repeatedly for photos as we had agreed that once the dress was made she would send me some pics and we could decide how long the jacket should be.  That never happened.  I simply got a reply one day saying the dress was in the post and sorry for the delay.

I know there are a lot of positive reviews but I really think you'd be better off to go with another seller.  I wish I had gone with Weddingdress88 on dhgate as I had originally intended, I only decided to go with wonderxue due to the fact that she responded to my queries and had a lot of positive feedback.  The lack of communication is cr*p and the end product isn't that great either.  The only thing I can say to Yuan's credit is that she has offered to refund my money for the jacket at least.

im mad and speechless!!! they did crap!!!! u can tell the fabric on that dress is really flimpsy... the jacket is ah hot mess... im soo sorry what would you do??? do you plan on getting the dress fixed by a tailor?? do you have time to order another?? keep us posted!

, but the ruffles are all wrong on this dress, it makes me look shorter and stockier than i am (5ft at 110lbs) no reason I should look like i'm 4"8!!!! I have requested a partial refund from bingbridal, i will let you girls know if that happens. I have ordered the dress from babyonline. If Sunny happens to disappoint me, I will just suck it up and get the original dress which I cried in.

Here is me in the original

Here is the dress bingbridal made. Excuse the mess. The entire reason I went with them was b/c of their actual image of a replica they made based on the Allure 8862. This is no where near close.

Brownskin,

I'm on top of it!

it was Trivera, I did order the dress again from where she did. It was Babyonline, I will keep you girls updated!! I'm confident. Worst comes Worst, I already got in contact with the bridal shop and was assured with 11 months left, I have enough time.

I am glad you are opting to get the dress remade by Babyonline.  They do have a good reputation as well, but I have to say, not as good as Jasmine's but I'm biased. wink.gif I understand that if you were to get the dress done by them, you might as well spend the money to get the original dress.  This must be frustrating for you.  I hope you get the results you want from Babyonline.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
