Thankyou for the detailed post with all of the pics! Your dress is beautiful. It is nice to see the up close shots of the quality. I had a friend do my measurements, so I hope it turns out well too. My dress is in transit right now and I am so anxious right now! I will post pics asap :)

Thank you :) I was so impressed with the quality of the embroidery and beading on the dress which is why I decided to post so many pics in my review, from a distance it just didn't do the work they did justice :)

I can't wait to see it when it comes in, I am sure the measurements will be ok, we just figured measure the best we could from the pics they provided and hope for the best! You would think now I have my dress I wouldn't be as excited about seeing others dresses but I think I am more excited/anxious as I still as hoping for a good outcome on all the people that have posted :)

WOW that was a great post, thanks Shells! Really detailed posts with tons of pics really make things so much clearer and by far much more comforting when trying to decide on a company =)

No worries :) I couldn't find a good detailed review on Ava when I was looking (except for eBay and a few comments in passing on wedding forums) so I figured I would make a detailed review to help out the next person searching for details on them :) Hopefully by word of mouth we can all get beautiful dresses from good companies without the stress then :)

Okay, sorry ladies. I am just now getting around to answering your questions. I have been so busy! Yes, I did try on the original and others similar to it before I chose this design. I had previously ordered a "grecian goddess" looking gown from a different seller, but decided I wanted something a little more sassy instead. The skirt fabric of the replica is very similar to the original. However, the bodice fabric is a little different (the original is silk organza) and I believe the replica is regular organza (not the shiny crystalized kind though (thank goodness). The material reminds me of various other dresses I tried on similar to this. The skirt is pretty soft and flow, which I am happy about, because I was worried it was going to fill like billo pad. I paid for more premium fabric than what Shades of Pale considered normal replica fabric...whatever this means!? The ordering process went really well up until the last few days before it was shipped. I had been in contact with Amalia regularly and then all of the sudden I hadn't heard from her for a few days, and then she emailed me stating my dress had been shipped without my final approval. I was a little worried, because there were still some changes we were discussing through photos. Shipping was very fast! However, when I received the dress almost all the changes had been adjusted. I was a little bummed b/c I had asked for the dress to have a bustle, but one wasn't included. It wasn't a huge deal though, because Shades of Pale only makes you pay a 50% deposit, and then you pay the rest before shipping, but since mine was shipped without my consent I hadn't paid the remaining balance. Amalia informed me I could use the remaining balance for alterations as needed. I believe the dress was shipped so soon because the wear date I had requested was quickly approaching. I had given them an earlier date than my actual wear date to allow for needed alterations. I was able to have the dress tied up tight and it looks awesome...so much better than the photo I have posted below. I did decide to have some width of the bodice taken in to allow the corset and hip area to fit correctly. I am also having a bustle put in. I go in on 1/24 for a fitting. I can't wait to see how it looks! I have also decided to add the flowers with crystal centers to the crystal sash. I will show you all a pic once I have everything complete! Please let me know if you have anymore questions. I hope I answered them with this post, if not let me know!

I had some changes made to the original design. I had the one shoulder changed to a strapless sweetheart and I added two different interchangable sashes. One is a crystal sash and one is a satin sash with flowers and crystals. I didn't get a chance to take a photo of the floral sash. Let me know your thoughts. I had the dress made into a corset back instead of buttons (due to my large rib cage...lol). I wasn't able to tighten the corset up like it needs to be in order to have the dress fit me like a glove. I know it will look much better once I'm cinched into it! I just didn't have anyone here to help me besides my fiance...I had to lock the doors so he wouldn't sneak a peek!

Hi Ladies!

I spent all day yesterday reading this thread and decided to cave and make a thread so that I could hopefully get a couple questions answered. I hope my post doesn't get eaten cheesy.gif

I sent an email to Shades of Pale / Little Velvet Box yesterday because thus far I've found that I really love their lace-work. This is what I sent to them:

Hello!

I found your Facebook page through a forum that I post in where I saw many positive reviews.

I'm getting married near the end of this year, and was browsing though your Facebook page photos and am very impressed with the lace work that you do.

My dream wedding dress is a lace gown with a mermaid skirt and a slightly extended chapel train, very similar to this dress you have already made:

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/261685_197098830337605_196879553692866_542801_6884953_n.jpg

I have a few questions for you about this dress...

How much would it cost for me to order this dress?
Would you be able to make it with a train about 30cm longer and so that it can be bustled but still fall beautifully and look good from the back? (so that I can dance in it!)
Do you offer several options in terms of fabric and workmanship quality?
Does this dress have a corseted back and boning?
Would you be able to put a little bit of padding in the bust to give me a little bit of "lift" so that I don't need to wear uncomfortable undergarments?

I am also fairly petite (5 feet tall) and do not want to wear high heels on my wedding day, so I would request a custom length so that I can wear flat shoes.

Thank you for your time, I look forward to hearing you soon! Happy new year!

- Andraea

Does anyone here have any reccomendations for who else would do a gown with a similar design-- or is there a specific designer I should be looking at to get someone to do a knock-off? I've been looking on Jasmine's Bridal Shop and thus far haven't seen anything. If anyone has any suggestions they would be much appreciated!! :)

Thanks

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
