Does anyone have an idea of the fabric that should be used on this type of dress? I'm totally clueless about those things , and thought a chiffon dress should be just made of chiffon, nothing else! I'm discussing with Landy, and they were offering 3 layers: chiffon+satin+lining, but I really want something light & flowy.

ok, the chiffon on its own would leave you with a dress with no structure - not to mention see-thru It would not stay up at the top, it would go between your legs if the wind blew.

 

The lining provides the internal structure - holding you in the dress, keeping it up and in place. The satin layer would be to create the outer shape of the dress. The chiffon then drapes to create the flowy look...

 

despite the fact that the dress has three layers - it actually needs to have three layers in order to achieve the flowing look...

 

I'm not sure I'm explaining it really well...

 

If you look really carefully at the dress that you posted you can see where the satin layer stops and the chiffon layer keeps going. In the front facing photo it's in line with the bottom of the fencing. In the Back photo you can see it really clearly in the bottom right hand side of the pic...

 

If you are concerned - make sure they know you dont want 'structured satin'. I would be careful not to say something about the thickness of the satin (you wouldn't want there to be a miscommunication of 'thinner' meaning 'lesser quality'). I would double check with Landy that it is a soft flowing satin being used.

 

I have seen a couple of landy/duosheng chiffon dresses posted and they look great. It convinced me to order one (although mine is not quite so beachy - Maggie Joanna - so has the thicker structured satin underneath, then the chiffon drapped over that)

I'm so glad I found this thread!! I have been dealing with Duosheng for months now and now I have finally convinced myself to order through them. Thanks girls!! I am ordering a replica of Maggie Sottero Jovi and 7 Watters and Watters bridesmaid dresses in yellow. I hope they turn out ok, eekkk!!

After reading all your information and checking out some of the sites you recomend, have decided to email two of them for costing on a Sottero Midgley dress ASM3275 for a TTD

Landybridal and Duosheng.com I am hoping the pricing is within limit if it is then im taking the plunge and ordering it.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. In my research some of the places were more expensive $400+ but most are less than $250 for a great dress. If it matters at all, Landy told me they don't do custom dresses - just what's on their website so hopefully they have a dress you want!

Just for reference, here are the prices I've been quoted for the Maggie Destination (SD523, the range is pretty interesting.

 

First, Landy (they do custom, don't know about your case KJT1985) & Duosheng, very popular here:

 

- 200Euros=300$ for Landy including shipping, good communication

- 250$+shipping(around 40$, it wasn't very clear from their reply), e-mail not quite as clear, it referred to shoes...

 

Then got a quote from littlecoral, which I've seen recommended on other forums:

 

- only 220$ including shipping, communication OK, but they tell me "the dress will not protect the bust well", I guess they're concerned about my modesty

 

I also checked out some sites which had the dress listed, around 200$ (topbridaldress), but not many reviews. DHGate, only 130$ including shipping but even less reviews since there are many different sellers there, and they didn't do custom sizes (important for me since my bust is about one size smaller than my waist).

 

In the end, I think I'll go with Landy, because of the reviews, the good communication from the start, and not that much more than doubtful places. DHGate would be the BIG gamble, but with the time I have left, I won't chance it.

 

I'll also do the custom size, hoping not to alter anything. I'll have my BF measure me tomorrow, he really laughed at the nipple-nipple distance...

Maybe landy was just really busy when I contacted them? Yeah, having my fiance do my measurements was pretty laughable. The only alteration I had to have done (custom measurements) was to have the dress hemmed (they just went ahead and added 2+ inches assuming you're wearing heels and i'm going barefoot) and I had a bustle added. The hem was $65 and bustle was $25. But that will vary from tailor to tailor obviously. I was REALLY pleased with gianinarbridal on ebay (didn't go through ebay, just email and paypal).
