Oh no! I'm sorry you had such a bad experience :( thank you for the reply! I was talking to Amalia in dec/jan and waited bc I thought we might have to push the date back a bit due to a move situation. They are giving me a good deal and I love their lace work out of everyone so Im really wanting this to work out, but I am hesitant now.... I'm really torn, bc it is kind of last minute as my wedding is in 3 mo :/ now I don't know who to go with. Maybe I'll see what happens by Friday...I need to order somewhere by fri!

Hi, I've been lurking here for a while. In the past few months I've tried out dresses in local boutiques (including David's and a couple of private ones) and I've made up my mind to order a custom made dress. The main reason for my decision is my petite size (I am 5 feet tall) and that the dress of my dream is a lace dress which is hard to alter. If I am to buy a lace dress locally (I found some really good ones at around $700-1000), it would cost me at least $500 to do alteration. I also would like to buy a high-quality custom made dress so I go through this thread carefully and try to pick a seller that seems promising.

Of all the high quality Chinese sellers mentioned in this thread, Jasmine, Shades of Pale, and Topspartner on DHgate caught my attention. Pictures of their sample dresses showed they pay attention to details and use very good material and I decide to go with one of them. Jasmine has hiked up their price recently, and Shades of Pale quoted me a very high price as well. Kathy from Topspartner quoted me a more reasonable price and even agreed to give me a deal if I pay directly through Paypal without going through DHgate. So I decided to go with Topspartner after all the searching.

I am really surprised DHgate got so little attention in this thread. http://www.topspartner.com/dress-samples.html The sample dresses they've shown on their website are so beautiful! They also got 100% positive feed back on DHgate. I guess this is probably their price is a higher than most other DHgate seller. But I think you get what you paid for! I've had a good communication with Kathy, and I just received my dress yesterday after one and half month I placed my order. I have to say my dress is astonishingly beautiful. The material and workmanship is so nice that I feel the quality is so comparable to the dress in local boutiques. The french lace is very delicate and soft, and satin layer is heavy all indicative of top-tier material (at least from what I can see). The dress is fully lined and boned (13 bones in total) and fit me like a glove. It also looks so much like the original dress because they've paid attention to details and didn't cut corners.

I will post some pictures once I get back home today.

As promised, I uploaded the pictures of the original dress as well as me trying on the dress made my Topspartner. As you can see, I think they've done a really good job knocking-off and the dress fits me like a glove. Although I was short, everything on this dress was cut to my proportion and looked so nice on me! I would highly recommend this company to everyone here.

I've just finished reading ALL of these posts... It was like an epic drama - Some ending well, others unfortunately not so well....  BUT, I am totally grateful to be able to hear all your stories and get SOOO much information...

My wedding is in about 7 months in Dominican.  I have yet to try on any dresses and I live in Korea - land of the small...  I'm heading out in 2 weeks on a dress trying on mission... But, from what I've heard from others and what I've seen through windows - I don't think I will fit or like the options...

I have a few ideas in mind of the styles I like, but thought I'd better try SOMETHING on before ordering...

Anyways, I'm going to be watching this closely... And will get back to you when I know something!! haha

THanks again everyone!!!

Sorry!  I didn't realize the attachment would have limited availability.  Here is a picture of the dress (it hasn't been steamed/pressed yet so it is a little wrinkly):

I spoke to Amalia from August 2011 (the time I got engaged) until December. (I went back and forth a few times on the design of the dress).

I figured by ordering it in February I would (1) beat the wedding rush season, and (2) give them 7 whole months to get the dress done and to be able to allot for any mishaps.

Prior to ordering, I read only good things about them here on the board, which influenced my decision to go with them. I also saw great examples of their work here and on their FB page. Plus they also gave me a great deal.

I think it is just over the past few months that there have been some production problems. Several dissatisfied customers have posted on their Facebook page and have had their posts deleted.(It was mainly them just asking over and over about their dresses and getting no answer). I'm not saying don't go with them, I am just saying that I still haven't gotten my dress that I ordered in February for my wedding to be held in August. (there was one bride that got her dress AFTER she came back from her honeymoon :-(

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
