Most people in this thread have bought knock off dresses and are perfectly happy with them. The choice to buy a knock off is a personal choice and may depend on finances so I don't think its good to just knock people's choices. And if you look through the pictures on this forum so many ladies have got gorgeous knock off dresses.

I am not sure what that means but it doesn't sound good. Any post office that you would have to pick it up in should be close to your home and have the same postal code however if you are in a small town then maybe that it what it means. I would verify with Monica Bridal that they have your correct mailing address. I wasn't home when mine was delivered and had to pick it up at the post office. If it was at the post office there should be a card left in your mailbox or on your door. I would check for that or have your FI check cause if you didn't get one of those telling you which post office to pick up at then I would assume it was sent to the wrong location. Oh god I hope you get it!!!!

When I read this, as an analyst who meets different people everyday, somehow I could smell that you are in the wedding fashion biz (just like I could smell the subprime collapse in US three years ago).

1) When you are a vendor or insider, you should declare that you are one.

2) You can be very biased, because you own a bridal dress shop.

3) It is a bit unfair to blast the quality, since most of the dresses in your shop are made in China, but of course you can get a fat margin on them, and the dressmakers in China can't.

Bonnie, I am so glad that you are getting married around the same time as me. You always have such knowledgeable advice.

 

As an aside, when I showed the pictures of my dress to a bridal shop manager she was very impressed and was proud that I got such a great deal. Everybody needs to make money somehow, I understand that. I tried several times to purchase a gown from a bridal shop, but couldn't find anything that I wanted. So I cut out the middle man and went direct to a dress manufacturer that could provide what I want.

 

 

Lisa, I'm not too worried because the postal code is still in our area. I figure the pick up notice will be delivered tomorrow.  It definitely is the correct address, I verified it several times. I still won't be home for another week, so no panic yet.

Good I am glad to hear that because I had heard some stories about shipments not arriving at the proper destination. Ahhhh so we all have to wait a week to see that beautiful dress on you! sigh.... Can't wait. I hope it is everything you wanted.

Lisa, the wait will be even more difficult for me. I haven't seen FI in 5 weeks, I haven't been home or seen our puppy in 2 months, and I still have to fly back after the weekend for few weeks away.

That sucks! Well you know what they say "distance makes the heart grow fonder" I hope you enjoy every moment while you are home for that short weekend! On a positve note all those hours will bring in the coin to help pay for the fabulous wedding you want!

You are getting married in April!  I am like 3 months after you. Still working on my DIY invites. I am just very nosy in general, not knowledgeable, just very very curious. 

 

I agree some dressmakers don't have a good Quality control system, some overpromised and under-delivered, bridal shop offers more personal services like fittings + alter at a higher cost and Indians have super good beading skills if someone wants a big dress with tons of beadings.  Overall, I think if we can cut the middleman, if we know what we want and can communicate clearly.

 

Of course, there are disappointments from time to time due to:

1) brides ordered a dress based on a pic or on her own imagination without trying on similar style and color before ordering it.  Unless the bride is size 0, 6 ft tall, she won't look like the pic.

2) brides who took measurements by themselves.

3) brides picked a super complexe style designer dress

4) brides who tried on the original and expect 110% exact with the replica

5) Poor quality control/craftmenship

6) Ok this one may sound a bit offensive, but brides who are above size 14.  China is still a developping country, obesity is still very rare.  Thus, for most of the chinese dressmakers, they have hard time to get the proportion right, because they never seen anyone in 14+ sizes.
