Janapana - Can't you get your dress altered to fit you? one size is not too bad... or is it more an issue that you want a different dress?

Lisadias - I think the dress looks really pretty on you! I can see how it is different from the original, but it is still so beautiful. It would make a lovely TTD!

Seb - WOW! It looks so perfect! I honestly can't see any changes that need to be done to it! AWESOME!

Mocha - I dunno who you ordered from, but my dress from Gianinar fits me perfectly and it has a corset back too.

On that note.... MY DRESS CAME YESTERDAY!!! I got pics of me in it, but they are kinda blurry sad.gif used my Mom's camera. Anyways, I will post them in two secs!

Sebita - The original looks gorgeous on you, and the replica looks like a really good copy. The only I would ask is that it be more gathered across the lower midsection, towards the flowers.

Bree - I ordered from Monica Bridal, I just want to be able to see the corset detail, I don't want it to be bunched up. Hopefully, I will get to see pictures shortly. It's been a week since I ordered and one of the dresses had a turnaround time of 7 days.

Your dress is almost identical.  As Lisadias said, it just needs more pleating in the middle area.  If I were you, I'd send them the picture of you in the original, and point out that they need more pleating from the flower embellishment outward.  There should be no bunching.  Once pleating is complete, this entire section should sit flat as in the photo of you wearing the original.

Other than that, this dress turned out amazing.

Breeze - can't wait to see your photos.

Thanks Karen! I think I will use it for the TTD depending on how much alterations cost as I still plan on loosing quite a bit of weight and it may cost alot as there is beading on the bottom part of the dress that you can't see in the pictures which would either be lost or they would have to remove the beading at the waist to pull it up from there and I think that could get costly here in Canada.

Thanks Mimi

Ya I think they did a really good job on the beading it was almost exactly as the pic I sent. It is very sparkly in person which is what I wanted. In the sun it will shine for sure!

Thanks Ginger! Ya I have no idea how they got that one wrong. They didn't ask my height but just asked for a measurement which I gave them with my shoes on.

Even though it is a holiday there I emailed them last night and they responded immediately and then again this morning so hopefully the wait is not as long as you may think! :)

Your dress is beautiful!  Other than being a bit long.  How did they get that wrong?  They asked me my height and I gave it to them and said I'd be wearing 3 inch shoes.  Thinking in my mind that with the dress I picked out even if I wore 5 inch it wouldn't matter.

Hmmm, I can't believe they agreed to send you pictures.  I specifically asked if they could do that for me, and I was told flat out no.  Reason being was that the lady taking the dress order and all my information and the only person I dealt with during the entire transaction was not in the same building as the dress factory.  To be honest, I was a little miffed at first.  I thought okay then get the dressmaker to take a photo.  She seemed very reluctant.  No actually she flat out refused.

Mine was shipped a week ago but like others have said with the Chinese Holiday, I don't expect to see it for a few weeks yet.

OK! So here goes.

I am so extremely happy with my dress from Gianinar. There were really only two issues -

1) The spaghetti straps (that go on the shoulders) were super short, and brought the bustline up too high, but its so super easy to put in some longer straps. Also, The boning and structure of the dress was so good, that I didn't even need them! I will put them in anyways since this is my TTD and I will wear it in the water and it'll get heavy.

2) The rouching around the hips start about a half inch too low, and you can see the horizontal seam above them. I saw this in the final photos too, but knew its simple enough to tack up one of the top folds to cover the seam with a few hand stitches, so no biggie there. I just wanted my dress!!

The good stuff-

1) It fits PERFECTLY. I can't beleive it will not need any size altering at all. Even the length looks perfect.

2) The quality is mind blowing. My Mom is a fashion designer and seamstress and she was blown away by how well it was made versus the price of it. She couldn't even buy the fabric for this dress for the price of it finished. The boning is strong, the seams are immaculate and the satin under the chiffon is nice and thick.

Ok, enough blabber - here are the pics - again sorry for the blurriness.

I am standing on a DIY 'bridal step' my Mom made for her studio, so ignore that white cover on the box.

I am really over the moon with this dress :) Here is the original again FYR

Ginaninar - They were great to deal with. Always responded the next day, and made the changes we asked for perfectly. My Mom as a seamstress saw the photos and gave quite a few changes the first time around. Then I added a few the second time. Altogether the timing was 2.5 months from order to completion. For any brides interested, their email address is: gianinarbridal@hotmail.com and they do have a website: http://www.gianinar.com/

Cost- The dress was $120 plus $69 shipping + Canadian customs/duty $25 = $214 - INCREDIBLE.

Shipping to Canada - Gianinar ships with TNT in China, which is a reputable shipping co. over there. EMS is China's regular post and is not all that reliable I hear. Once it came to Canada the package was handled by DHL Express. After Giananinar sent it, I got the dress in 5 DAYS. There was a customs and duty charge of $25 upon delivery here - which I was expecting.

Slave Labour? - My Mom was a bit concerned that we are supporting 'slave labour' in China with these dresses. She just can't fathom how it could be made so inexpensively without paying the workers pennies to make it. I'm not convinced this is the case, I think it is just the reality of manufacturing in China and until their government improves labour laws, everyone, corporate companies and name brands included, are benefiting from the 'cheap' labour in China. But then, maybe corporations are more stringent in insuring their workers overseas are paid fairly... I really don't know... Maybe someone on here would know more? I do plan on doing more research on it myself and will let you guys know what I find out.

Overall a great experience!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!

I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
