Oot bag item questions (customs)

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I'm just wondering how you all are going about taking your OOT BAG ITEMS on board. I'm confused and scared as far as what I'm allowed to take with me. I don't want to buy all these things to then have some police officer tell me "NO..THAT ISN'T ALLOWED" shameonyou.gifand then have them dump all of our stuff in the garbage..you know what I mean..confused.gif

Did any of you have any issues getting TYLENOL, MOTRIN, MEDICATIONS...etc. over there to Mexico. How about your shampoo, conditioner and lotions..etc..etc..huh.gif I was going to purchase these Travel-Sized Clear Bottles that I saw in CVS and just fill those up with my stuff, but the bottles are so little, we're going out there for 10 days so I don't think this would work for us. I'm really stuck with this. What should I expect at the airport here in Newark New Jersey, and at the airport in Mexicohuh.gif

I haven't done it yet, but, I was planning on checking an extra suitcase filled with all my OOT stuff. If you decide to carry on the plane, I think the pills will be ok, but, lotions and other liquids have to meet the requirements...Under 4 ounces I think? And then, you might have to put it in a ziplock bag.

Hope that helps.

I'm curious to see what others have to say as I've had the same concerns. I know for sure though that I will not be carrying any liquids on just to save myself that hassle. I figure we will just bring an extra bag for our OOT bag things and then we won't have to worry about space on the way home. Using a duffle bag was suggested so then we could fold it up to bring home but I think we will still just use a regular suitcase since I like to bring things home cheesy.gif

I am curious as well - I think we are just going to check an extra suitcase with all the extra stuff. Also I had a question in terms of getting the bags to our guests. Are you guys planning to keep them in the lobby and have the staff hand them out when guests check in?

If you are carry your items on then you will have to deal with the certain sizes and in a ziplock bag thing. If you are going to check them, then you should be fine with everything.

At first I was going to have the resort pass them out but then I realized that the bulk of my guest will be arrive at 2 times on the same day. So know I think we are going to hang out at the pool near the lobby and then meet our guests. I think they will like the welcome. If this doesn't work out then I will just have the resort pass them out.

I made a decision just recently to hand deliver all the bags to the guests that are going that live local before we leave. I will just carry or get family members to carry the out of town guests bags with us to Mexico in our checked luggage. I was going to pay for extra bags for several people to help me carry the items but that totally blows my OOT budget.....

AND I have everything for the OOT bags that has already been purchased organized in one area and it is already a large amount.... we haven't even received our travel mugs and koozies yet. This helps with having to write the normal notes to Customs that these items are not for resale and each person can find room in their own bags to bring it with them.

It this totally tacky of me? I am really trying to keep things as simple as possible and stress free as I can.

I was thinking I would make personalized letters with last minute reminders and hand write a note on the bags to not forget them and to please try not to open until they arrive.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
