For those of you who stayed at a NON all inclusive...

Recommended Posts

Hey Ladies,

I'm trying to calm "its too expensive" and sell the value of an all-inclusive. So I am (finally) trying to put together a cost comparison chart. Since I've never been to Cancun, I was hoping you ladies could give me the run down of the cost of your vacation. If you stayed at a non-all-inclusive (I know there is a term for it... european?) and would be willing to ansewer a few questions for me, that would be lovely.

Which hotel did you stay at?

How was the service/quality overall?

Did you eat most of your meals at the hotel/resort or did you venture off to other restaurants?

If you ventured off to other restaurants, how expensive was the taxi fare?

Aproximately how much did you spend on food per day:

For breakfast?

For lunch?

For dinner?

For snacks?

Aproximately how much did you spend on alcohol per day?

We did stay at a smaller all-inclusive resort in Jamaica, but our taxi was not included. From the airport to Runaway Bay (approx. 1 hour drive) was $80 + tip. To go into Ocho Rios (approx. 10 miles/20 min.) was $25 + tip. Not sure if this will help, but it might give people an idea for taxis at least! Things really add up! I was surprised at how expensive taxis were.

We have not had our wedding yet, but the hotel is a family favorite. We are going to be in akumal further south but there is a shuttle from the airport that costs about $8/person

Which hotel did you stay at? We are staying at the Hotel Akumal Caribe, although our guests are staying in bungalows off the beach. They are $80 per night have 2 double beds and full kitchen. There is also a patio to the bungalows w/ a bbq. FI and I will actually be staying is RajKumal villa on akumal bay

How was the service/quality overall?

It is amazing down there! We are a very laid back crowd and really don't care for upscale resorts so in our opinion its perfect.

Did you eat most of your meals at the hotel/resort or did you venture off to other restaurants? We are going to Costco in PDC and buying tons of food and BBQing most of the time cause we have bbq w/ bungalows.

If you ventured off to other restaurants, how expensive was the taxi fare? We will probably eat at restaurants in Akumal which are all walking distance

Aproximately how much did you spend on food per day:

For breakfast? We love fruit for breakfast and we can get a weeks worth of fruit at the farmers market right next to the hotel for $10

For lunch? We will be eating sandwiches probably but there is a lunch bar on the beach so maybe $10 a day at very most

For dinner?BBQ

For snacks? maybe $7 a day

I estimate we'll spend at most $40 a day for the 2 of us and our daughter cause we do our own thing we always have everywhere we go. We've traveled the world and found its much easier and cheaper to do it ourselves than ALWAYS eat out. If we do eat out its only for dinner.

Aproximately how much did you spend on alcohol per day? This is the catcher for us! ALOT of money, we have wine connoisseurs at our wedding so we'll be spending lots of moolah on great wine, beer, and of course Mexico tequila!

I don't have the numbers b/c I have always stayed in all-inclusives in Cancun - but we have gone out to dinner off the resort and I thought the prices were comparable to NYC prices. So, if people think they will eat cheaply there, that is definitely not the case. Drinks were at least $10 per drink and all-you-drink clubs were in the $30s. When we did take a cab, it was $20 to go to somewhere nearby on the strip.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
