I highly recommend Edventure Tours. Eddie and his wife Bonnie are originally from the States, and now live in Akumal and own a tour shop in Tulum (right outside the ruins). They have vans and all the tours are private, they take you to places where you can avoid the 200 pax bus loads of tourists, you pretty much have each place to yourself. Their website is "Edventure Tours, The best day of you vacation and they will customize your day. We started by being picked up by Bonnie at our hotel, went to Tulum, visited the ruins, then went to Dos Ojos cenote, Garden of Eden cenote (cliff jumping, but not really), and Akumal Bay to snorkel with the sea turtles (and sardines, and barracuda, and amazing other wildlife), we stopped at a local restaurant called La Vida Bonita (I think) in North Akumal, had an amazing lunch (additional charge obviously), and lastly visited Yal-ku lagoon, which is an amazing location that puts Xel-ha to shame. This place is surrounded by sculpture gardens, and has no one but residents who live in the private gated community there (and you, of course). There are other options as well, like Zip lining through the jungle, visiting monkeys, etc, I just included information about our day. They are so friendly, accommadating, reasonable ($$), and just fun to be around that we are still talking about it and recommending it to people almost three years later. We are getting married in June 2009 and you can bet we will be booking a trip with Eddie for either pre-wedding or post-wedding! Good luck!

Hi there,

We did a snorkeling excursion to Yal-Ku lagoon with:

Mexico Blue Dream, Playa Del Carmen, Mexico

They offer a couple different excursions.. We chose the Yal-Ku one because it's a sheltered lagoon, so some snorkeling newbies in the group would be more comfortable.

It was REALLY fun!

The company is run by a French husband & wife (they speak English)...The wife personally took us out...They even arranged a van to pick us up at our resort at no extra charge... (We had about 12 people...but I'm sure they do larger groups!)

She also took us to Akumal to snorkel with the sea turtles... It was amazing!

Everyone who went is still talking about what a good time they had.

Here's their e-mail:

info@mexicobluedream.com

They got back to me quickly and were very easy to set things up with (as our numbers kept changing etc)...

Price was about $35/$40 per person.

Good luck!

Do you know if the Cancun Catamarans company will go down to Playa del Carmen? I am looking for a private catamaran for our guests the day before our wedding. I would love to have a 4 hour tour with lunch, open bar and fun music....kind of like a booze cruise excursion.

So we just booked our snorkeling excursion, and we actually went through Cancun Catamarans! smile29.gif So far they have been great work with and I just know our guests are going to love it. Here is the main info, I sent this in an email to those guests that I figured would want to go:

Hello there! I have some very exciting news...we have finally planned out and finalized our Snorkeling Excursion, and it is going to be AWESOME! We found a wonderful company called Cancun Catamarans, and they have really "hooked us up"! Check out their website...it's Cancun Catamarans, Cancun Catamaran Tours, Cancun Sailing, Sailboats in Cancun, Yachts and Deep Sea Fishing Charters.. Anyway, below is the scoop:

The Snorkeling Excursion will be on Saturday, May 23 (day before the wedding) and will last from 10 AM until 2 PM. We will meet in the lobby of the Hilton Cancun Resort at 9:30 AM for check in. We will have our own PRIVATE CHARTERED 48-foot Catamaran. It will include (for all guests that will be attending the excursion): Round Trip Private Transportation from the Cancun Hilton, Open Bar, Bathrooms onboard, Nice Sound Systems (for music and dancing if you like), Snorkeling and gear, Spinnaker Sail (Parasail), and a full crew just for us (Bartender, Ship driver, and snorkeling guides). Also, we get discounts at different bars and things like that for booking through Cancun Catamarans!

Open Bar: Rum, Vodka, Tequila, Rum Punch, Juices, Sodas, Bottled Water, Cold Beer and more.

Dry Snacks: Assorted Chips You can also bring anything else you like.

Description of the boat: "The Catamaran 48' "Next Wave" is a 40 pax Catamaran. This Catamaran is totally flat and great for parties. Small sitting area towards the back for 10-18 pax. It can be seen on our video on the Contact Us page. Cancun, Cancun Catamarans, Snorkeling, jungle tours, speed boat tours, Catamarans, sailing & day trips. She is perfect for wedding parties."

Price: Only $50 per person! This is about as much as it costs through other companies to just go snorkeling with a bunch of strangers, with no fun stuff included...we are getting a GREAT deal. Please mail your checks to us and we will put you on the list. Trust me, we have gone snorkeling a few times in Cancun, and this is by farthe best deal we have found yet...we are getting so much for the amount it costs, for 4 hours of fun!

Snorkeling:The normal snorkel time is around 90 minutes worth, and the rest would be cruising around the beautiful sea, drinking, having fun and carrying on, but we can choose to snorkel for as long as we'd like! We got an absolutely amazing deal on this excursion and I think it will be one of the highlights of the trip!

Parasailing: In the attached pics you will see the Spinnaker Sail, aka a small Parasail. This is AWESOME that its included!!! It doesn't go as high as a "normal" parasail, but it will definitely be just as fun for those of you with an adventurous side who want to enjoy it!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
