Trying to pick a resort....

Recommended Posts

We are trying to decide on a resort for our wedding. My fiance and I are 24 and 26, we are getting married next year. We have 2 young children who we would like to bring with us. So we are looking for a place that is kid-friendly but also will be luxurious and entertaining for guests who range in age from 25to 60 years old. we have agreed that the things we are looking for are:

-Price range of ~$1500 per person

-Allows kids, but somewhere where we are not overwhelmed with kids everywhere

-spa for bridal party

-modern/clean with good food

-Good entertainment, pool (swim-up bar?)

-All Inclusive!!

We have been looking at the Iberostar and Dreams Tulum... Any comments on either of these locations?

I have selected the Iberostar Paraiso Beach in Mayan for all the reasons you have mentioned above. Cost though I have found is very dependent on the month/time of you want to have your wedding. We had originally decided the last week of December (over Christmas) as many of our friends are teachers but found this to be the most expensive and busiest time to travel and at resorts. We then selected March spring break as our wedding date which happens to be about the 2nd most expensive time to travel:)

We have now opted for mid April as conditions are nice in the Caribbean during this time and cost is a little less. Unfortunately though, this is not a convenient time for teachers and some cannot come but I have found through planning my DW there is no way to pick a date that is convenient for all. We finally decided on a date that was convenient for us:)

I have read in reviews that Iberostar has a good kids club as well.

Well, I went with Dreams Tulum. I prefer a smaller property so that my guests (especially since we have some less experienced travelers) didn't feel overwhelmed by the size. The Iberostars are beautiful, but just driving into the complex can be overwhelming. Dreams also has two sections, the Hacienda, which are the more standard rooms, and their newer suite-only Dreams section. I found that this gave my guests some choice, and about 1/2 are staying in the Hacienda and 1/2 are staying in the Dreams section. Everyone gets the same privileges, it all just depends on your budget and what youre looking for in a hotel room. Also, Dreams is really good about giving upgrades to the couple, and a lot to the families too. They have a kids club for when you need a little down time, and an adults only restaurant as well.

Hi there, I know youve narrowed your choices to the 2 resorts, but I thought I'd mention The Ocean Coral and Turquesa. We just actually made the choice 2 days ago and everything you have mentioned we wanted in a resort as well! The Ocean is new, (built in 2007), kid friendly, clean, spa, good enough entertainment (accdg to tripadvisor), nice beach, close to Playa Del Carmen and Cancun, and the biggest thing for us was the price! We were quoted $1699 + taxes, keep in mind we are coming from BC so chances are your quotes would be less. Anyway, just thought I'd mention it! Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
