Official PV Riu Thread (Discussion here for Riu Vallarta, Jalisco & Pacifico Palace)

Hey Guys,

My TA called me in a panic about someone who wrote her a letter telling her not to send her guests to the Riu Vallarta for weddings. I must say this was pretty concerning but it seems to me that the letter writer was really concerned with watered down drinks at the beach bar (and faded liquor bottles) and security being in a guest room? She said that the wedding itself was perfect, that the staff were wonderful and the place was gorgeous.

Personally- I don't really see the big deal. Should I be concerned about this? Has anyone heard anything similar? I'd love to hear from brides who got married there recently. Thanks in advance!

Hey Ava!

What time did you get married at in April? We are debating either all of us going barefoot or going out and buying everyone sandals. Someone has mentioned it may be too hot at 4pm to walk barefoot. Still not quite sure...

If anyone has their weddings pix and would like to share, that would be awesome :)

Cheers!

Trobin,

Do not worry about the RIU Vallarta. Everything will be great! If the drinks aren't strong enough, they have no problem adding more alcohol. If the liquor bottles are faded, it's probably from the sun! I can not comment on Security being in a guests room. I seriously wouldn't think anything of it.

Holly,

The sand is hot anywhere at 4pm! LOL!!

Hi Celina, Lol, that is true... The stupid things I worry about this close to leaving.... I am still quite worried though about the reception dinner at the Flamingo steak house. We have been there before and I ended up serving our table drinks and the steak really did suck. Hopefully being on the 2nd floor we won't have to deal with the starving kitties... I tried to get Sir George with no avail. sad.gif They won't do a reception dinner there :P

Celina, do you by chance have any reception photos? While we stayed at the Vallarta Dec 08 we never had to go upstairs to the 2nd floor to have lunch so I've never seen it! Do you have any advice about wedding stuff at the Vallarta? Things you would have done differently, things you would have added etc? There are so many "extras" and I don't want to go overboard but would like your opinion pleaseeeeeeeeeee? cheesy.gif

Thanks a bunch, 65 days left!

Hey Holly!

You should be fine! I just got married at the RIU Vallarta December 30, 09 and the supper on the 2nd floor was beautiful. You can hear the ocean and there are palm trees right by the ledge. They decorate it so nice too! My steak was a little tough, but everyone said they loved their dinner. Everyone was so impressed. I will try to figure out to add pics, before they wouldn't let me. The wedding planner (Kay) was there the whole time watching over the event and was right on schedule to bring the cake, champagne and any other requests. I could not have changed the night at all. They don't serve specialty drinks at dinner (just wine, beer maybehuh.gif) but we rented the pool bar later where they serve everything. Only till 11pm you can rent it till. If you want something later, I believe you can rent a hall inside. Hope it helps and I will try to add pics! Sorry I have been meaning to write a review of my whole PV experience, but I just finished my reception at home here this weekened. So now I can breathe and maybe start working on it!

Oh and I would definitely rent the pool bar. Our guests still talk about it. It is amazingly beautiful right by the beach, private bar tender, and you just hook up your ipod to their speakers. Everyone jumped in the pool at the end of the night!!! There is tables and chairs set up wtih candles on it around the dance floor. It ends at 11pm, but on holidays, if you are with older people, that is kind of a nice time to end it. Then we just took off to the beach with music. I wish I could re do the night!

As far as the Flamingo went, the WC's were very acommodating with whatever we wanted. We had 30 guests and arranged them 10 per table. We took down our own vases (2 per table), table number holders, table numbers and I even went as far as having place cards and a table seating chart. We had small activity bags for the kids which came in helpful because our service was very slow. By the time we finished our food, the second table in our party was barely getting theirs.

We did our toasts up there and it was very private. Really, they will do anything you ask them to. Don't worry about a thing!

Here is a picture of our sign in table. Before the wedding I gave them our sign in book, pen, pictures etc. to place on the table. We used the flowers from the arch and the BM's bouquets to the table to jazz it up.

I hope this helps!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
