Hello Everyone!

After three trips down to Riviera Maya in the past 12 months, my fiance and I have not yet been able to decide on a resort to have our wedding. We've been together for nine years and engaged for almost five... long story as to why. We've decided that a destination wedding was the way for us to go since we've been together so long and we wanted something special and different. My future father-in-law has stated that our wedding is going to be "anti-climactic" anyway, so let's make a family reunion out of it while we're at it.

A quick note on where we are in the process. We've visited a bunch of places (I'll put together a site visit post sometime...) and not one of them seems "perfect." I don't think the perfect resort exists. I basically want a beach wedding and reception at an all-inclusive resort that allows children, with good food, and good service. That sounds easy enough right? Well, no, it's been impossible. I guess I'm too darn picky! (Plus I confuse myself further by reading endless tripadvisor.com reviews).

I think my fiance and I have decided that we really prefer Playa del Carmen to Cancun. My favorite resort in Playa is the Playacar Palace. The service is impeccable, the food really good, and the facilities are gorgeous. The one problem is there is no beach to speak of, and I REALLY want a beach wedding. I stayed at the Sandos Playacar Riviera Resort and Spa during my latest visit last week and found it to be ALMOST right for us. I'm struggling because the service wasn't the best, and in order to have a private reception on the beach exactly the way I want it, it's going to cost lots of extra $$$. But, the facilities were beautiful, the food not too bad, and it just had a pretty relaxed vibe. The cost is also more affordable for our guests compared to some of the other places we have seen, which is an important factor. I'm just really concerned about some of the stuff I have read about the responsiveness of the wedding coordinators there...

In short, I feel really pressed for time since our wedding is going to be in November and we really want to send "save the date" cards out ASAP. We need to make a decision soon. It's really stressing me out. I need to make a decision and decisiveness isn't one of my strongest qualities.

I'm looking forward to participating in the forum. Hopefully it will alleviate some of my neurosis and help me to get my crap together and plan a great wedding!

Welcome Laura! I know there are a couple of posts in the forum where folks have done site visits to a number of hotels and written "reports." I'm not sure if that will help you or not since you're already pretty educated on the area, but check it out. Good luck - I'm sure you'll find something perfect!

Have you talked to a travel agent?

There are some TAs in this forum that would be glad to give you advise so that you can make a better more informed decision without you having to read the bible... (in the endless threads I mean!)

I believe there is a banner on the top of this site that has their info.

I know that your wedding is going to be gorgeous. Keep us posted! smile29.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
