Kate - I can't wait to see your pictures! The informal slideshow you posted was gorgeous!

So....Helps! The last major decision we have to make is music, and the Mr is apathetic towards it (he's not into live music like I am!). So obviously we are going with DJ Aldo for the reception :) But deciding the music before that is proving difficult. Originally I was goign to go with the mariachi band, but the Mr is skeptical (me thinks the tunes from Looney Tunes is running through his head, but I lurv Kate.com's pictures with the mariachi! I'm just not sure I like mariachi music...). Then I had about decided on the Latin Caliente band for the cocktail hour and dinner (they sound more like us) with the ipod for the ceremony (so we can do the recessional to the Beatles' All You Need Is Love, or something equally poppy!). But now I'm having second thoughts, since Mariachi are from Jalisco and I'm beginning to think it's weird to have live music after the ceremony.

Does anyone have thoughts/opinions/answers for me!? Kidding, but I'd like to know what others are thinking - or what past brides of PF think. Help is appreciated before Lindsay throttles me for procrastinating! (kidding, she's too sweet to hurt anyone!)

haha... you are too cute.

So DH thought the same thing about the mariachi!!!!!! He was kindof against it. Somewhere in the middle of the process he learned to trust me... come on, I have great taste and he knows it and let it go. It was romantic and we loved it.

I think they have 2 spanish guitars too... maybe he'd feel more comfortable with that?

Whatever you decide, it will be great! And the mariachi was enjoyed by the guests more than us... we were to focused on getting married to listen much but I will say the guests were wowed by it!

Hey Ladies,

Anyone running into your guests being confused when they book at PF with the 10% house charge and then the taxes on top of that?

My guests keep emailing me b/c they go to book and then the prices jumps twice during the process. I've been telling them that there are taxes on top of the base price, but I think b/c the tax rate is so high they think it must be a mistake.

Anyone else running into this and how are you handling it?

Thanks!

Jennie

DB2B...I am torn on ceremony music too! My fiance has the same opinion on the mariachi music...must be a guy thing. I think it could add a really neat mexican flare to the ceremony but he thinks they are cheesy. I am going to search the internet this weekend for mariachi wedding music. Hopefully I will be able to find a sample.

I can't believe that is your last major decision to make...I am a slacker!!

Jenniebey, I have dealt with this with my guests as well. I did not break down the price for them I just gave them the total so they were shocked when they saw how high the tax and service charge were. I just had to tell them it is customary in PV.

We had the 3 piece mariachi during dinner on one of the nights before the wedding and they were awesome!! Now, they were doing more dinner style music and our guests were getting totally into it, making requests and singing along, so it is hard for me to picture them during the ceremony...if you have a specific style or "feeling" you want, maybe ask Lindsay for a live music suggestion?? They definitely have lots of options.

We didn't do live music on the wedding night. For pre-ceremony music while guests gathered by the pool and waited, we had a playlist of my favourite Vitamin String Quartet songs - Aldo played them and it sounded great!! Then we had our processional (Heaven, Bryan Adams cover) and recessional (U2, Beautiful Day - cropped to start at "it's a beautiful day...") played by Aldo as well. During the cocktail hour, Aldo picked funky Mexican feeling lounge type music...and then had nice dinner music once dinner was served.

About the price...I had listed on our website the total, then broke down what this included, like the service and crazy high tax. In my pre-wedding welcome brochure, I also stated specifically that service was included in your room rate so no additional tipping was required (for servers and bar staff, etc). Most of my guests had travelled to Mexico before so were aware of the high tax, but I did feel like I had to explain it because it seemed kinda crazy to me.

I just put everything on our website- including complete booking instructions too. In fact, I pretty much cut and pasted Kate's info. It worked pretty well.

The tax in PV is outrageous though I agree!

PS I am going to have my pro slideshow by the weekend, yay!

I know! I can't wait to share. Bill and I keep thinking about the brides at PF on Fridays. We are just so excited for you all bc we KNOW how much fun and how perfect everything will turn out.
Oh, just in case anyone wants to cut and paste from my website, hasn't been updated in awhile but here: katelynnandbill.com
Also under the "book your trip tab" is all the booking instructions. It is a good idea to make sure your guests have the step by step to save you some time. I also made a little front/back card with these instructions and put it in my invites, just an idea.

    • Hi Everyone, So, I was cleaning out my closet and realized that I never sold off my extra wedding OOT bag stuff from our wonderful DW.   46 Daily Spanish for Dummies 30 Pool colored OOT fabric bags - approximately 13in x 13in. They lay flat.  I used them for our wedding and they were perfect for everything we needed to fit in each bag. There’s a slight shade variation in the group; I’m guessing some were cut from a different bolt of fabric.  They are also a little wrinkled from storage and will probably be wrinkled from shipping. I have three additional ones, but they somehow got something on them (likely toddler related). If needed, I can try to wash it out and send those as well.
    • I’m getting married in six months to my foreign girlfriend. I was advised by a friend that one of the things I need to do before saying I do is to get a prenuptial agreement. Basically it’s supposed to protect my assets and properties in case my relationship with my future wife goes down the drain. I don’t know though if this is an acceptable practice when marrying Kiev ladies. I don’t want to do it if it would be insulting on her end. I need advice on this. Please help me.
    • So we are currently looking for an all inclusive resort for the wedding. We have 60 guests and found all the Dreams resorts as options and all of them gave us a quote and discounted price since it’s off season etc. Resorts in Punta Canta gave us a reasonable price, Dominicus gave us a really good deal then La Romana Resort and Spa gave us their regular price and so hard to negotiate. Will someone tell us how special is this resort that they won’t give us a good discount when all my guests are staying in their resort for 5-8 days. We are bringing $$$ in their resort and not give us a discount?  What is so special with this resort?  Can somebody recommend a beautiful resort?
