I have been thinking the exact same thing ... I agree. I purposely leave favors at wedding so I don't have to bring them home and throw them away.

 

So I have decided to do personalized luggage tags with the the guests' name, address and phone number and not our wedding date and names.

I realized that of ALL weddings I've been too i usually forget the favor at the venue! The ones i manage to keep I lose or break because no matter what, these things are cheaply made. I realized that i've only ever been interested in the food favors. The candy or small bottles of wine/rum have been my favorite favors. These have been the ones that go the distance with me. If people are flying they might appreciate a little snack they can take on the plain. 

 

Since I'm getting married in Jamaica I settled on individually wrapped Jamaican Gratter cakes. These are little sugar and coconut "candies" made somewhat like peanut brittle. They are will cost me 75 cents each. i found a carribbean vendor here in New York who will do these for me and I'll take them with me to Jamaica. I asked my wedding coordinator if i could have them made on the island and she quoted me $2 each which is insane because the two main ingredients in these things, coconut and sugar, are native to Jamaica! The Vendor is Sam's Caribbean Marketplace, and they even have a facebook page. They sell all kinds of items from the caribbean and you might find that giving your guests a local item might appeal more.

I still would like to do candy. Does anyone think M&M's will melt in my luggage ?! Or maybe I put them in my carryon and hope we don't get hassled and that for some 'security' reason we can't take them on the plane...then we all will be eating M&M's in the terminal!

Hey Marlena,

 

I ordered the personalized m&m's and brought then down with me and they did not melt! And I was not questioned on them at the airport. I purchased the 5lb bag and that was enough for 60 shot glasses. I can't remember if I put them in my luggage or my carry-on....I think they were in my luggage....I will ask my bridesmaids b/c they might remember and I'll let you know!

My sample luggage tags that I ordered on VistaPrint arrived yesterday. Very nice and professionally done  

 

It's official. They will be my favors. I will personalize them with each guest's name, address and phone number.They will take some time to make, but I think it is something that they will be able to use. 

 

I will decorate them with little flowers with my wedding colors.

 

One less decision to make

Thank you for posting this! I agree 100% with this! I have been thinking of what I can plan & do next and this subject keeps rattling my brain. After reading all these threads about what people do, what kind of bags & what to put in them makes my head spin! I never bring home the favors unless its the cake which I have ate when I got home! Great after a night of drinking...with that being said I love the idea of doing some kind of candy! You are right about the plane and having a snack. Most the time you don't get any food but maybe a bag of 4 pretzels in it!

I am not doing anything with our names & dates on it either. The only guests that will care are probably my mother and his! I feel like it would be a waste of money. I know I would never wear or use it.

I do plan on getting koozies and possibly shot glasses but not sure what to put on them yet.

Wow, this makes me look like I am an eater and a drinker! I would be happy to get that as a favor!

I still don't know what kind of favors I'm having, but I want them to be edible! (or maybe we get bottles of appleton at the resort ?) Everyone likes edible favors...at least I do!

We were already planning to give our guests rum cream or coffee, depending on if they drink alcohol or not, in the OOT Bags.  I agree with LisaandDre that most favors probably aren't appreciated.  I was thinking that doing a group photo (by resort photog) on the first night, and bringing down engraved frames, so that would be a good keepsake, as along as they can be printed out in time.

 

But now I am thinking about  food stuff...So the last time we went to Jamaica, I remembered a tip from tripadvisor that said on your return trip to the Montego bay airport is a really good fast food-style restaurant that does jerk (chicken, pork, etc.) and a lot of other Jamaican specialties, called Island Grill, and the shuttle services always gets you to the airport super early so you have time to kill after checking your baggage, and we really liked it so maybe a gift card for everyone?  You can take the food with you through security and onto the plane if the airline allows it.

Sorry to be confusing.  I was thinking of giving everyone a gift card to this place (as the wedding favor) so they can eat before they have to board the plane to return home, plus it is a way to kill time since the shuttles get you there so early.
