I chose the Riu Tropical Palace.  I went to see about 8 resorts in Negril and I thought that this one offered the most for the best price.  I just read a detailed review on this site of a bride who seemed thrilled with her Tropical Palace wedding so I am gettting very excited.  Have you been to the resort?  If not I may have some information that will be helpful (contacts, details, etc...)

Nafnaf thanks for posting!

FI and I stayed there last summer for 8 days and really enjoyed it. Hence, that's how it made it on to our short list of potential properties. We really love Negril, however I am concerned about the lack of brides getting married there. While we were at RTB, we only saw 2 brides and that was after their ceremonies.

Are you having a beach or gazebo wedding? We definitely want a beach wedding.

We saw RTP while we did some site visits last weekend in Jamaica. It's one of the three hotels we're considering having our wedding at. However, to be honest it's in third place. It's the only hotel we'd consider in Negril as of right now. It's in third place, because we want to make sure that there's a lot for our guest to do (if they choose to) leave the resort and go explore. Other than it's a very nice hotel.

Thanks for the comments ladies!

IslandGirl: We also considered the IRHS in MoBay but they don't have any June 2011 availability left, so we are leaning more and more towards the RTBP.

While Negril is not known for it's night life, I think we have decided that most of our guests need some rest. If they want to go into town there are options, they would just have to make an effort to do it. Also, nothing beats those beautiful beaches of Negril....

Do you mind sharing what your other two options are?

Pretty Sparklie,

I am getting married on the beach.  I thought that I could get married at a gazebo anywhere.  They set chairs for up to 40 guests on the beach (for $12 you can have individual chair covers, but I am not going to do that).  I chose the Capri Package which comes with basic decorations and a few other perks, but I won't get into any of the specifics unless anyone is interested....

If you are choosing between Negril and other parts of Jamaica, I think that the upside of Montego Bay is it's close proximity to the airport, the downside of Montego Bay is that (other then Half Moon which has a long private beach), I do not believe that you can take long strolls on the beach at the other resort in Montego Bay.  I also think that Negril is more laid back (it was the last part of the island to start up with tourism) and more relaxing.  I also think that not having tons of other brides at the Riu Tropical Bay is a plus because then you are less likely to be competing for the wedding coordinators attention.  As I mentioned I looked at a lot of other resorts in Negril (Riu Negril, Beaches, Sandals, The Caves, Couples) to name a few and I thought that Tropical Bay was perfect with it's location at Bloody Bay, the ability to go over to Riu Negril for a walk or a drink and I think that you get a lot for your money.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions about more specifics!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
