I was at the Barcelo last weekend and I saw exactly where the Tropical beach receptions would be. They are not private. You would be right on the beach with everyone else. The thing is, when the sun starts to set, the beach really empties and there is nobody out there. There is a grill area where they would serve the food from and you would have tables set up in an area between the trees on the beach. We are probably going to have our reception at that same site.

It will be beautiful. None of the beach locations are private. The most private would be the sandy area in the trees that is very close to the Palace but it is not directly on the beach. The beach beats the pants off of the ballroom.

I got married at the Barcelo Palace in January. It was perfect. I could not have asked for a better day. If you have any questions let me know. I know I had a million before I went. Also, someone asked about the photographers... I don't have any experience with the resort photographers. I brought one of my own. Here is their link if you are interested:

Who was your photographer? I notice in the Barcelo's wedding packages a photographer isnt provided. So will the hotel suggest photographers for you? Also did you do any tours outside the hotel? My Fi wants to see the Mayan temples. Let me know, and CaraW keep me posted on your plans!! This is SO exciting!

Thank you Kam :)

Our photographer was Kevin Lanthier. He is a friend of ours. And is based out of Van. BC. We flew him down. And payed for his accommodations. Totally worth every penny!!! because we are so thrilled with our pictures... Im not sure if the hotel gives you options? in regards to photographers... I dont think they do. Seeing as they dont allow outside vendors. Unless they are booked at the resort...They might have changed that policy though... Best of luck! :)

As for a group excursion. Yes! we did do one. It was a catamaran adventure. We booked at the resort. They have a desk set up in the corner of the lobby which is in charge of all excursions... That's were you'll want to book a trip. Chichen Itza are the bigger Mayan ruins, while Coba is smaller, but you can climb up one temple. (DH and I did this excursion, after the wedding) Tulum is the smallest of the mayan civilizations in the area, but it has a gorgeous beach! Breath taking in fact! Dont forget... because your booking as a group, you should never have to pay full price wink.gif try and get a group rate. Its BS if you dont get one! If your booking more than 10 ppl you should get a discount wink.gif

Best of luck! and Happy planning :)

kbbride,

Congratulations! Your pictures are amazing and it looks like you had a very beautiful wedding. I've chosen the Barcelo Palace to host my May 2010 wedding and have a question. Where did you hold your reception? It is exactly what I have in mind for my reception!! Thanks for your help:)

KBBride-Your photos are gorgeous! Everything is so beautiful. I am getting married January 25, 2010 at the Palace. I loved your beach location and reception location. Where were they at? Also, did you make your table centerpieces or did they have them at the Barcelo? Did they set up the ceremony site with the white netting or did you do that? What time was your ceremony at, did you feel like you had enough time for pictures before the sunset? Sorry for so many questions. How was the weather that week? Thank you so much!

harv0136, how did you go about booking your Jan. 25th wedding date for 2010? We would like to book our wedding for Jan. 21st 2010 at the Palace but have been told by our TA that we can't even get prices for 2010 yet, let alone set a date. Are you using a travel agent? Did you book directly with Barcelo? Thanks for your help!

we called the WC and had them pencil in our date. They will not "guaruntee" that date until you book rooms at the resort. They are taking reservations for 2010 and I was able to get rates through my TA as well as directly through the Barcelo. Hope this helps

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
