iPod Speaker Question

Recommended Posts

Hey, ladies!

We are getting married at the RUI Palace in Cabo (hopefully). For music, we do not want to hire a DJ. The budget we had for that, we decided to buy an iPod (I think we are the only two people in the world that doesn't already own one...even my parents have one!), docking station, and speakers.

Which speakers would you recommend? I know nothing about this stuff...lame, huh? I know we want a good sounding one (obviously) but, in reality I don't know which one that would be.

If anyone can help me, that would be great.

We are having a small-ish wedding (under 30 ppl) and I don't think the huge DJ speakers are necessary and my brother is going to volunteer (he doesn't know this yet :) ) to handle the ipod (which will already be set with the diff. playlists).

Man, I made a long question SUPER long!

I heard the Bose docking station is really, really good, thats actually the one I really want! but someone looked into it and said you can't hook a microphone up to it, so if you need a microphone that probably wouldn't be a good option, I heard the sound on it is phenomenal.

we are having a very small wedding as well and I've thought about going this route as well.

I am getting married at another RIU and wanted the same thing. I asked how much to rent their speakers.....$200 per HOUR! That's nuts! I'd say...really look into those little speakers...if they carry enough sound, it would be worth it to just buy those. Let me know if you get a different quote on renting speakers...I thought it was really high.

We had approx 20 guests & used our iPod & Altec Lansing speaker for our reception. It worked out FANTASTICALLY! Seriously, for a smallish wedding, this is the way to go. Don't pay the resort their stupid fee's for hooking up to their sound system - it's a total waste of money. Now, if you have a LARGE group, then maybe a big sound system is worthwhile.

The Bose will be the most expensive option. Altec Lansing has several models that are all very good & vary in size. We have this one:Click the image to open in full size.

ooh, thanks christa! Its nice to hear from someone who has actually bought one that they liked it. Can you hook up a microphone to it?

We figured we need some type of stereo or something at home so if we bought this we'd have it for the wedding and then have it to use at home as well.

the cost to rent the speakers is ridiculous. I think dreams is 130, but still, its not like they're giving you a person to run them. And if there is no other wedding then they wouldn't be using them anyway!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
