Post dinner reception

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies

I've been on these forums a while now, and your help has been invaluable so far!

I'm getting really confused as to what we can do after our meal on our wedding day. I know there's lots I can search for but I thought if I lay out what I've got so far someone could help?

Basically,

1 there'll be 16 of us (at the Riu Ocho Rios).

2 We're having our meal at the mammee bay at 6:30.

3 Its a Wednesday.

4 The poolside reception is already booked

What other options are there. I kind of know about Seagrape and Plantation, but which one is the better optoin for a small party. WOuld the Dunns River bar or Bob Marley bar assign some tables/chairs and could you use your own Ipod there etc.

I'm in such a tizz as its not far away now. doh.gif

YOur help is very much gratefully received!!

Hi Claire,

I was wondering the same thing, hey I just noticed that you are getting married the day before me!!!

We are planning to have dinner at the Mammee as well and I talked to Chandlyn about options for afterwards and she told me that most dinners/parties go on for quite a while in the resturant but if we wanted to move to another bar she could section us off a few tables. I will have to see how the dinner goes.

Hi Claire

Have you thought about just having a few drinks at one of the bars afterwards, think the meal goes on for something like 2 hrs doesn't it?

I also thought Seagrape was the poolside place, I might be wrong but it seems a bit pricey as other people have booked it & I think they charge something like $50 a head?? Did Chandlyn give you any indication of where you could do something afterwards, might be worth sending her another email to see of other venues that don't break the bank? We're just going to wait til we get out there, I'm hoping to just do the 1st dance thingy at the beach gazebo if they can lend us a CD player & we'll just do something like that & then hang out at one of the bars. We're not 2 bothered about being around other holidaymakers, at the end of the day we'll make the best of it. Another favour, would you know someone who could record extra footage on our camcorder?? Wouldn't be for long?

Hey Kari, we're getting married on the 3rd April, when do you arrive, we'll prob meet up for a drink or 2 when you're out there. Good luck with your planning!!

Hi Claire, me again!

I was just browsing the forum & came across a thread "ROR Seagrape Questions" if you put the thread in the search above, you can see what other brides have posted. Apparently its a problem for Fri/Sat nights as they have the beach party either of those nights, but wednesday should be ok. Its also $15p/h if you just want drinks & tables put up so that seems quite reasonable. Think we'll wait til we get out there about booking that up, we might not have it cos of the beach party.

Let me know what Chandlyn says

Talk soon hun

Hi Kari

What time you getting married? Sarah and I are meeting up when we get there, it might be nice to meet up with you guys too - another fellow BDW'er! Thats if we're not all too busy!

Hi Sarah

Seagrape is different to poolside, but the costs are the same if you want to have your meal reception there. I've already ask others on here about Seagrape and apparantly its near the entertainment stage so you can't hear your own music.

Just really wanted to know what the other bars are like really. I'm going to ask Chandlyn about other options as I don't want to pay for 'set-ups' only to get there with 1 hour left if the meal runs over!

I'm sure someone will use your camcorder, just as long as they don't have to be in charge of it all night long - they'll be liking the alcohol too much!!

Hi Claire

Thanks, don't think we'll want much footage, prob be less than an hour, don't want to see each other doing daft things when we start getting sozzled!! Am looking forward to it now.

Didn't realise the Seagrape was that near the stage area, I see what you mean. Do you think the main area wd be ok to hang out, I think we're going to change after the meal, my dress might be getting a bit hot by that time anyways so I would rather change into a lighter dress then.

Let me know what Chandlyn says

Hey there, we just got back from our wedding (jan 24) and we had a beach reception right at the beach gazebo after dinner. It was amazing...lots of privacy. We rented speakers for $75/hour (we got them for 2 hours) and plugged our iPod in and away we went. It was $15/person to set up tables, chairs and have our own bartender.

We did our 1st dance in the gazebo...I had my MOHs put candles all around the ledge of the gazebo and it looked so beautiful (I'll have pics when I put my review up). People were also partying from their balconies that were overlooking our party...it was great! I would not have done it any other way :)

Hello!

For a small group, I would not recommend the Seagrape..only because it is too close to the nightly entertainment stage. It is so loud!! I would think the plantation would be nice for a smaller group. We had our dinner there and it is not open to the other guests only to wedding parties. They would only have one after dinner reception there at a time, so it would be very private. I am not sure of the price for the Plantation?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
