"My eBay Lesson" (or "I'm Finally Getting My Dress")

Recommended Posts

So, I found a Divina Sposa dress that I fell in love with (online, didn't try it on). This is the dress:

Now, I am not one to pay $2K for a dress that I'm going to wear once. I mean, I balk at paying more than $20 for any item of clothing (except running shoes). That being said, I went to trusty old eBay and found a company who would make a knock-off for on the cheap. I researched them and found that people seemed pretty happy with their dresses. So I ordered one.

This was Feb. 16. I requested they take pictures before they send the dress and also that they remove the flower that is on the dress.

March 12 I wrote again just generally asking when the dress would be ready, and they said 20-25 days. On April 6th I wrote again and they said 7 more days. Ten days later I wrote again and they said it was being "checked" and would ship on Saturday. I reminded them to send me pictures.

I got an email on Friday saying my dress had been shipped. No pictures. While I was happy that I would actually soon have it in my hot little hands, I was also really worried that it was going to look like a patchwork Frankenstein dress. I emailed them inquiring about the pictures.

They sent me pictures last night. Here they are:

So. It doesn't look as Raggedy Ann as I thought it might. It's also not the color I thought it would be. AND they left the flower on (grrr). But all in all, it's okay for a $70 dress. I don't know. What do you guys think? Should I keep shopping?

I think the dress is amazing and the copy looks really good from the pictures they sent. The dress is arriving in a couple days (right?) and I would wait and try it on --- even if it is identical to the original but you don't feel magical keep looking but from this side of the computer screen it looks gorgeous...I dont think you will know until it arrives...maybe start looking online for some back-up off the rack options just in casehuh.gif

i agree, wait until it arrives and try it on first before you get disappointed. $70 is super cheap!!! so it's not a big waste if it turns out to be something you didn't want and you can always resell it. The only thing I would be concerned about is the actual quality (loose thread, material, etc) which you can investigate when it arrives. i also paid $70 on ebay for my dress and was way hapy with it. it was abridal store sample so it had some missing buttons, but other than that it was awesome and if i decide to trash it, i won't feel guilty!

was the seller based in china? i ask because when searching for wedding dresses on ebay, there were lots of great ones, but they were all in china, and despite the decent feedback, i was still sketchy because most of the feedback were from the same people with low feedback and in china as well.

let us know how it turns out!

i agree - wait until you can try it on. the color may just be off in the picture - hopefully it's closer to what you were expecting. also, you cna probably have some minor alterations (flower removed) for relatively cheap, and still come out with a great dress at an awesome price!

laura, I'm glad you finally got some pictures, I think it looks like a pretty good copy for $70, but I guess you really have to try it on to see how you feel in it. I had bid on a dress from the same dressmaker on ebay and it was a really pretty dress, but I ended up finding a bridal store sample and got a sweet deal on it, so I felt a little more comfortable with that.

I hope you love it when it gets here!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
