HELLLLLPPPP! Reception Ideas - Plan B

Hey Girls,

IM GOING MENTAL!!

I am in such a rut.

Heres the story:

I have already sent out my Invitations (with reception venue) on them, yes i know I was very keen however I wanted to give everyone plenty of time to save since coming all from Australia.

Now originally, we had planned to attend the Royal Hawaiian Hotel Luau, and the price before the renos was approx $99.00 per person.

I have emailed the hotel and they now tell me that it is $175.00 per person.censored.gif I dropped dead. I was maybe thinking up around $120-130.

I dont think we would be able to afford this amount anymore... Because with the Aussie dollar so low as where it is at now would cost us $275.00 a pop x 30-35 people = ALOT OF MONEY!

Now, can anyone help me with suggestions with what I could do...

Maybe a dinner somewhere? Any restruants in Waikiki that are good for receptions anyone can recommend?

I was looking forward to the Luau as It was entertainment and Dinner all rolled into one!

Hopefully, no one will longer attend and they will have to drop there prices!

Thanks so much!

Are you guys hoping to stay right in Waikiki? If you want the idea of Luau as It was entertainment and Dinner all rolled into one, there are lots of great luau's on Oahu. Several companies have buses that will pick you up at your hotel and drop you back off. So a Luau may not be out of the question.

How formal of a reception are you having? More of a relaxed dinner or aa MC'ed night? Just trying to think of restaurants that would be better suited for your reception.

Good luck!

Tiki's is awesome. Especially if you plan something around sunset. Such pretty views. Duke's is a good casual choice too but can get really crowded (the bar area is very popular). I think the food at Tiki's is a little bit better than Duke's. How about Paradise Cove (not sure of the price off the top of my head right now though)? Roy's (they have a nice private room off to the side that *might* accomodate 30ppl)? Germaine's luau??

I lived in HI for several years...you will absolutely not be disappointed with Tiki's. MUCH better than the food at Dukes as the other person advised....They set up a nice private area right by the pool and right outside the dining room! It will be great...the view of Waikiki is the best.
As she also stated, you can get tickets and do the luau..if you do a group at Paradise Cove you can probably get a good price!

How terrible! I can't believe that hike in prices, especially when so many places in Hawaii are having such trouble right now.

I don't know if you have flexibility on time, but I always thought it would be cool to have a brunch reception - you could drink mimosas, have breakfast foods and perhaps save some money. Of course, that means moving your ceremony up, but it may mean you're able to keep the costs down a little.

Good luck! It'll all work out.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
