Leaving in 3 days/freakin out about hair...

Recommended Posts

Long story short....I decided to do my own hair for the wedding because

1. I have naturally curly hair that I straighten everyday at home. When I go on vacation, the frizzies come out.

2. Whenever I have had my hair done for weddings when I was a BM, I hated the way my hair turned out and ended up re-doing it.

I had my stylist play w/ my hair and show me what to do. But I'm freaking out because she makes it look so easy and I'm sure I won't be able to tame the frizz. I didn't want to pay the salon at the hotel a bunch of money to end up hating my hair.

Has anyone done their own hair then regretted it? Or should I just fork over the money and have the ladies in the resort salon do it?

I have curly-ish hair as well; that loves to frizz in the heat and humidity. I plan on sucking it up and paying someone to do my hair; because I don't want to take the chance that I will be looking at my wedding pictures and saying "Ew.. my hair looks gross and frizzed".

If you have someone do it, just be very speciifc with how you want it and watch them as they do it. You are paying them.. get what you pay for! Bring pictures of how you want it and instruct them very clearly.

Well, This is your day so if I were you I would just fork over the money bc if you do your hair and you don't like it. You will be upset and it will ruin the day for you but then again if you don't like the way the salon does it.......then its a no win situtation. I think that you should do a trial when you arrive at your hotel and if you like it then book it but if you don't then do your hair yourself. You can never go wrong with straightening your hair and leaving it down. I know it's a difficult decision but I'm sure you will be beautiful no matter what!

wow... we are the same...

I leave in 4 days and have the curly hair... and no salon appointment.... the trick for me is going to be ALOT of product...

when my hair is wet I'll put in a salon curling product (kinda like a lotion.. can't recal the name) then I use a clip to hold my hair up on top (to give some height) and wait for my hair to dry... if you have enough product (and not too much) you will have a mass of curls and no frizz(that everyone loves.. but looks like a mess to you and me)

safe bet.. go simple.... I am use a pony tie and use bobby pins to bring the curls around... and pulling out a couple hairs around my face...

try your hair a day or two before and practise.. also I am taking flat irons and three sizes of curling irons.. to work on it...

I find on my long bangs (to my chin) if you let you hair dry naturally and then use a flat iron to straighten the hair right at the root (ironing up or to the side.. only about an inch or so... it will give you some lift) the curls don't get so out of control.. and lay alot nicer...

good luck!

I have crazy curly hair too and I would say it is your day let someone else do you hair :o) do a hair trial first and that way you can show the person exactly what you want and it will be just perfect! I think for myself if i did my own hair on my wedding day i would be so stressed out and just get frustrated so easily. I definately say have a trial first and just let someone pamper you :o)

My hair is naturally frizzy so I have to blow dry it all the time. Did your hair dresser recommend any product for you to use? I would try to do it yourself everyday before you leave and them once you arrive (before the wedding).

personally i decided to do my own hair and i sooo wish i would have gotten it done. i straighten every day too, and my curly look is not the gorgeous springy curls that some girls have but more of a hot messy frizz-tastrophe. i always forget that the "air-dryed" look that happens in mexico is totally different that what i end up with at home.

if your room is VERY air conditioned, you should have no prob straightening yourself, but if you're like me and the room is even a little too warm, the straightening just wont work right.

plus, if you pay someone else to do it and you dont like it, at least you wont be mad at yourself for messing it up, you can blame the stylist wink.gif

Have you played around with it at all? Maybe if you could straighten it and do it however you want it to look for your wedding day and take a picture of yourself you could bring it to the salon and let them work their magic! Or schedule an appointment before your wedding at the salon and see how your hair holds up in the heat while you are at the resort. Good Luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
