Why I HATE David's Bridal...very LONG...

Recommended Posts

So I get up front to do my exchange/order. And the girl is putting it into the computer and the consultant brings over the size 2 and says here you go. I was like, no I'm ordering one and they proceed to explain to me that they are not allowed to order a dress if they have it in stock. Well, this didn't sit so well with me. I know it's DB and it's not that expensive but if I'm paying full price for a dress I don't want one off the rack that has been tried on by thousands of brides. So now I'm stuck again. I said "if I order the zero I will get a new dress, but if I want the 2, I have to take this one?" and then they give me some story about how all their orders come from somewhere else on the rack anyway and nothing is "new." I guess this could be true, but the 2 petite I ordered had come looking brand new...they said they would make my 2 off the rack look brand new too after they alter it. I didn't know whether to believe this but I had already made my decision about the 2 and not the 0 and everyone said the 0 wouldn't fit...I was so frustrated and just wanted to get out of there...I figured maybe if I try on a 0 in a different dress just to see the size, I might feel better about it...so I ask if I can see a 0 and they tell me that they don't carry 0 in the store, it's a special order and that no DB carries a zero. At this point I wanted to cry and get the hell out of there with ANY dress, so I took the 2 off the rack and ran with it.

When I bought my dress I asked if I could order it in rather than taking the off the rack dress that I had been trying on (I thought that the one from the rack looked as though it was turning yellow from people trying it on!). They immediately told me that it wouldn't be a problem and even had it shipped from their store to another store in a different state because it would be closer for me to pick up (I bought it in Minnesota and had it shipped to a DB in North Dakota as I'm from Canada-it saved me about 4 hours of driving). Never did they mention anything about having to buy the off the rack dress. I would seriously demand that they order you a new dress in the size 2. That's terrible business on their part.

I hope that you get everything worked out. Good luck!

WOW sounds like a dress shopping nightmare! I would seriously go in there and demand to speak with a manager - especially since it sounds like they outright lied to you about being able to order the dress! I did get my dress at DB and it went good but I feel horrible that you went through this! So Sorry but I really would go back and talk to a manager - you will feel better - as long as they aren't as rude as the other people.

Hmmm.. sorry you had such a bad experience at DB. The one I went to in Washington was great.. and for sure they asked me if I wanted to order the dress in or take the one off the rack. I would definitely order in a new one if you don't like the one you have. Maybe even go into a different DB and explain the situation.. they might order in a new one for you.

Oh that really stinks you had a bad experiences. We did also we ordered our BM dresses there well we thought we did and they said they would be in Feb 14th we leave on Feb 24th... yikes then two weeks later I get a call from DB that they never put the order in... WTF, they now have ordered them and they will be in Feb 18th bigger yikes.

Have you thought about ordering the dress in a size 0 off their website? This way you can compare the 2 and 0 at home and see which one you like. Good Luck!

I'm sorry you had a bad experience and I completely understand because I went in there once and it was a mess and I had to leave because nobody wanted to help. So I understand. But I would first go into another store to try on a size 0. Hopefully someone there is of more help to you. And if you find the same dress in another store in your correct size I would take the 2 and ask them if they could exchange it there or send it back to the other store so you don't have to go back to that other DB store. I don't know what their policy is but I'm sure if you let them know what you've been through they could accomodate you. Good luck!!!

My friend (the one with the alteration problems last year) told me today that she had found her dress in the correct size at another David's Bridal and they said they can't exchange at different stores. So she had to have her 2 size 8s altered rather than just getting them in her correct size sad.gif

The whole thing is just ridiculous...

Also, I can't order off the website because it says in store only AND I would also be paying for it twice and I can guarantee I would never see a refund....

It's just frustrating. I will definitely go to another DB to try on a 0 and then go back to the Danbury location if I absolutely have to if I decide to order it, but I have to find the time to do all these things. My next day off is my birthday in February, and that's not really how I want to spend it...

I went to the DB in Orange, CT to try on dresses. I had an appointment and they were definitely late getting to me. They also had two other brides trying on dresses all with the same consultant. I ended up just having my friend help me because the consultant was too busy and I wasn't going to stand around waiting for her. I did end up ordering a dress from there, but the staff was really unprofessional (eating, drinking, gossiping, talking about each other negatively in front of customers~ all while the store was really busy). I ended up finding another dress at another bridal shop that I loved and selling my DB dress.

When I did go to DB to pick up my actual dress no one helped me. No one zipped me up or offered me a bra. I was on my own. There were also a bunch of kids running around eating lollipops and one almost stepped on the back of my dress. So, I had it on for like 5 seconds. Also, I found the store to be quite dirty and wasn't happy that my brand new dress had to touch their floor while I had it on.

If you are going to go to another DB in CT I would recommend staying away from the one in Orange if you can. It is a zoo. Some of the other people shopping in the store seemed to have no respect for other shoppers and no control over their kids.

Oh no! I was just planning to try to make an appointment in Orange tomorrow night...I have class in New haven until 7:30, so I figure I can pop over there (it's kinda closeby) and try on a 0...not sure when else I will find time to go...I was going to try to call and make an appointment in the morning...I probably still will, but at least now I will be ready for the disappointment sad.gif

Thanks for the tip

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
