Regarding shipping, I've been given the impression that DHL is the best option but it is very expensive and you still run the risk of items not arriving. Customs can be a pain. My Dad works for Federal Express. I had him explore that option, but the person he talked to in his office advised us not to risk it.

I'm flying Continental and called the airline last week. See their baggage policies below. Regarding my 2 checked bags, I've resolved to pay for the extra weight and/or pay the $100 to bring another checked bag. Also, I'm asking some of my family and friends to carry items for me.

Wrapped Packages

Due to higher security levels at airports worldwide, gifts and packages are subject to the same inspection as your carry-on baggage. To reduce delays at the airport security checkpoint Continental recommends that you travel with your packages unwrapped. This will allow for easy inspection, if necessary.

Carry-on Bag

Continental will permit one bag plus one personal item (see below) per passenger to be carried on the aircraft.

The maximum combined linear measurement (L + W + H) of the carry-on bag is 51 inches (130 cm). The maximum weight of the carry-on bag is 40 pounds (18 kg).

Personal items

In addition to the one carry-on item, you may bring free-of-charge the below items:

·one small personal article such as a briefcase, purse, day planner, small laptop computer, camera case, compact disk player or similar sized personal entertainment item

·personal aid devices such as wheelchairs, braces, canes, crutches, prosthetic devices and walking sticks, provided passenger is dependent on them.

·one infant article such as a collapsible stroller, a diaper bag or a government approved child seat.

Economy Class Free Baggage Acceptance

·2 Checked Bags: Maximum 50 lbs (23 kg) and 62 linear inches (157 cm) (total length + width + height) per piece.

·2 Boxes instead of two free checked bags: Maximum 50 lbs (23 kg) and 62 linear inches (157 cm) (total length + width + height) per piece

Boxes are accepted on a voluntary separation and limited liability basis only (space available only, in good condition and labeled). Boxes are not accepted on Expressjet Airlines, Inc. dba Continental Express ExpressJet destinations to the Caribbean, Central America and Mexico. Continental Airlines shall not be liable for damage to boxes and their contents

Bags in excess of 50lb (and under 70lb) = extra $25 charge

Excess bags (3rd checked bag) = $100 per piece

Just be careful because during some times of the year there are "Excess Baggage Embargos" which will limit (or in some cases not allow at all) extra baggage.

For example here's the Continental Airlines Excess Baggage Allowance Embargo Dates:

April 7, 2006 - April 19, 2006

June 4, 2006 - August 31, 2006

November 15, 2006 - January 15, 2007

Here's the link: http://www.continental.com/web/en-us...e/embargo.aspx

...I imagine the dates for 2007 will be similar. BUT not all airlines do this. Delta and Continental are notorious for these embargoes (I book a lot of international travel with excess baggage for my job) but American, Alaskan, Mexicana and AeroCalifornia don't really seem to do this at all.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
