Excellence or Paradisus?!?

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone! Hope everyone is doing well with their wedding plans! My fiance and I are getting ready to book our resort for out destination wedding in the DR and are looking at Excellence and Paradisus Punta Cana.

I've heard good things about both but wanted to hear from people who have dealt with or are currently dealing with these resorts. Our travel agent has experience with Paradisus but doesn't know much about Excellence. Both resorts seem pretty similar in what they have to offer the only big difference is that Excellence is adults only which is nice but isn't necessarily a must have for our destination wedding.

Any information you all have would be greatly appreciated! Thanks and have a great weekend!!

Our travel agent liked that PPC was a member of the Leading Hotels of the World. To be honest, I didn't spend much time looking at Excellence because I liked the reviews I read about Paradisus. You can read the reviews and see what fits your needs for your guests and wedding. In the end, it's where you can see yourself on your wedding day!

I have stayed at both. I preferred Excellence because I prefer adults only resorts while on vacation. I find adults only resorts to be much more relaxing than resorts which allow children. There were a TON of kids at Paradisus while I was there. It really depends on what you are looking for. If you think some of your guests will want to bring children than I would opt for Paradisus, however, if you don't think anyone will bring kids than I would definitely suggest Excellence.

We chose the Excellence (7/2/09) for ours specifically because of the adults-only thing. I also loved the size of the resort, etc.

Ana Luisa, our WC, has been great, and usually gets back to my questions the same or next day (and most times within hours). You can also email them for sample menus, etc. In addition, there are a couple of brides on here who have posted their pictures.

Good luck!

I'm a little late with this thread! :) We are also trying to decide b/t Excellence and Paradisus as I've heard rave reviews about both on this forum. Do you guys recommend a site inspection before booking a date? I don't know if I want to do that necessarily only because I'm afraid we will lose the date we want. Any recommendations on either of these resorts??

We ended up selecting the Excellence for it's "Adults Only" policy. Also it's a bit smaller of a resort. I can say nothing but great things about the wedding planning staff, and there are some wonderful reviews on TripAdvisor.com as well. While I'm not doing a site visit, I've seen a lot of photos from other brides on this forum, and feel as though I've already been there!

Thank you for the advice! I'm happy to report that we finally made our decision and we will be tying the knot @ Excellence Punta Cana as well, next May. I did read some reviews on tripadvisor and most of it is outstanding.
We're not yet sure if we will do a site visit, but so far the WC are very helpful and friendly. I was in Punta Cana last July, and did pass by this resort...from the outside, it looked really nice!

I stayed at the Excellence last year, and loved it so much that we are going back for our honeymoon :) We would have done the wedding there, but there were a number of family members with young children and we did not want to specifically exclude them. But honestly, it is a beautiful resort, and the service was phenomenal. The only thing I would mention is that you can't really swim in the ocean there! They have riptide warnings almost everyday (in fact several people died there a couple of years ago because of the tides). When we were there the lifeguards blew whistles everytime someone went out over their knees. But the pool is so great, it really didn't bother us - but it's something to keep in mind.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
