Did anyone by OOT bag stuff in Jamaica?

Recommended Posts

We want to inlcude some Jamaican "specialities" in our OOT bags. We were thinking, blue mountain coffee, rum, etc. I am curious to know where others have purchased this stuff. I do not want to buy it at the resort, where it will cost an arm and a leg!

Hi ladies!

I am planning to bring most of my OOT bag goodies with me but I did ask a friend (my fiance is originally from JA) to find out what it would cost to buy nips of Appleton rum down there (I'm putting together 50 bags for 120 guests so my budget is limited) and he said I can get them at a local liquor store for $1 a piece.

I didn't inquire about the coffee but there must be places you can purchase. The only down side to the coffee is that most Jamaicans don't drink a lot so you're best bet is tourist spots ... which of course means a higher price!

Good luck!

You can definitely get some things at the airport or you can stop at any local shopping area after you arrive.

If you have arranged your own private transportation, you can always ask your driver to take you somewhere where you can get the items that you want.

When I arrived at the resort, I had the transportation company that I was using for my entire stay, take me to one of their local friends at one of the shopping malls & I was able to get the mini bottles of Appleton rum that I gave out as favors.

I definitely found the items to be much more expensive at the resort.

Wherever you decide to go in Jamaica, don't be afraid to negotiate prices, especially if you're buying a lot of stuff and buying it from 1 particular store/vendor.

We bought goodies for our bags from Chandlyn, they were the free gift we received for getting married there...little bottles of rum cream in a Dunn's River Falls mug, wrapped in yellow cellophane and tied with a ribbon. They looked pretty and were super easy, only $8 each.

Thanks all. We are bringing the majority of our OOT stuff from home as well, but want to add some Jamaican items too.

We are heading down in a few weeks to finalize plans and I will ask our wedding coordinator for her thoughts as well and will report back.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
