leanne, we usually dont get the insurance on car rentals either, but in mexico it can be different, and in another thread i was advised that they often collect "cash only" insurance fees when you arrive to pick up the car, regardless of if you have already paid in full prior to traveling to mexico. so it could end up being no big deal, BUT it could be a big deal as well, if you kwim :)

My in-laws are renting a car when we get there and we are all traveling together so we'll ride w/ them down to Akumal. Although for our TTD day we'll be renting a car for the day so we can drive around for great ttd spots. We will be renting from TSA Reservations. I will let you know what i find out about the car.

here is info they gave us thus far. For Airport transportation:

From 1 to 3 people: $90 usd one way and $170 usd round trip.

From 4 to 7 people: $110 usd one way and $210 usd round trip.

From 8 to 10 people: $150 usd one way and $290 usd round trip.

They also have a bus from the airport to Akumal for 50 people and is $1600 roundtrip

We are planning a couple trips for our guests. One day we will be going to Tulum so the fares from Akumal to Tulum are:

10 person van is $140 roundtrip per van

50 person bus is $650 roundtrip

Then another day to Coba:

10 person van is $270 roundtrip per van

50 person bus is $1080 roundtrip

They have 2 websites:

Airport transportation

Travel services in akumal and Riviera Maya

leanne (and anyone :) ) i emailed alamo (we were going to use them, probably not now but we are still kind of undecided haha, day to day!) and they wrote back and said:

Thank you for contacting Alamo Rent A Car.

That price does not include the Personal Liability Insurance. In Mexico, PLI is mandatory at a cost of $10 per day. Liability coverage of up to $75,000 applies to all accident related expenses not pertaining to the rental vehicle. If your rental company will cover you in Mexico, we would require letterhead from that company, with contact information, in order to have this charge not added to your bill.

Thank you,

Chris

FYI :) this is alamo, idk if it is EXACTLY the same at all car rental agencies in MX, or just alamo's policy (the PLI thing, who's policy, alamo or MX?) anyways, i just thought i'd share :)

When we went down for a site visit in February we booked a private transfer even though a group transfer was included in our Apple package b/c I had read stories of it taking up to 3 hours to get to our hotel due to the group charter stopping at so many other resorts. I was referred to AGI through my resort's forum and I was very pleased with them. They even stopped by the 7-11 so that we could pick up some cervezas. Anyways, I pulled up their website and they seem to have dropped their rates - they are super cheap now. Here is the link:

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
