I can't remember the resort (I'm forgetful) but I can look into it and I'll PM you some more info and pictures. It was a nice 4 star and they got some royal service thingy added to it (which they all raved about!). I guess you get your own section of th ebeach and stuff during the week and royal service. I dunno but it sounded pretty cool.

I decided to do mine when he finally proposes on St Thomas. My package has everything down to dress rental and tux rental and reception in it. But I willl put my family on the cruise to the island because to fly and stay was about 1500 but a 8day cruise is 899. so that is one option.

I must say that I started out by looking at caribbean islands as well. I have been to many of them on cruises and I love them all! But, when I started pricing them out, it wasn't going to work for our guests, so I turned to Mexico. Did you try any resorts there?

Yes I really want to go to Dreams Cancun, but its looking like it will be a lot per guest as well.
Do you know of any other good hotels in Mexico that I could check into?

I went with my sister today to the travel agent, and she was telling us some prices for the hotels I liked and they were all around 2 grand per person! My sister told me I cant ask people to spend that much and basically made it out that she wouldn't come. So her and the TA said I should look for some less exspensive 4 star places. Im pretty bumed out about this. Its my day, and maybe thats really selfish but I want it to be beautiful. Now it seems like that may be out of the question.
Do u mind having people stay at a different hotel? That's what we are doing....we are not going to stay at Casa Del Mar (location of wedding), we are having guests choose to stay at a hotel in cabo with us and also give them the option of staying at another hotel to save $$....if you are having your wedding in Cabo you can always have them look at hotels on www.loscabosguide.com

Hey, I'm 99% decided on the Gran Bahia Punta Cana/Bavaro in the Dominican Republic. We're looking at November 08 and for a week it's 1500/person. I actually think it might be cheaper to fly out of Canada because the DR is more popular with Canadians than Americans. Not sure why! Not sure if that helps you at all, but just wanted to throw it out there. Good luck!

It apears that Punta Cana would be much cheaper. More in the $1250 per person for a week area. And then, I'm an advocate for the Gran Bahia resorts in the Riviera Maya, which are also a much cheaper option.

I tired to really hard to plan my wedding on the off season in CR. I thought it would be better for the guests and better for us b/c the prices drop like to almost half off. It may rain, but that is okay. A little rain never hurt anyone.

We already have basically no friends coming and my FI doesn't have any family coming. It just seems to be getting smaller by the minute. Guess its just a bit upseting that no one seems to want to come anymore.
I totally understand---- I have a brother with 3 kids and my FSIL has 2 kids. My brother isn't willing to spend the money, so he just crossed any option to attend. My FSIL would love to take her husband and 2 kids, but she has also said that if they can't afford for everyone to attend, she and her husband will attend and the kids will stay home with their in-laws.

No matter how much you try and accommodate your guests, they will complain. There are also other options---- if 1 year isn't enough warning to save the funds to attend, they could stay at a non-AI resort or a local hotel to cut back on some of their costs. Granted, you would need to find out what your resort would charge for guest passes for them---- and they wouldn't be able to spend as much time with you during their stay----- but at least it would get them to the wedding.

My personal opinion is that everyone *loves* a wedding, as long as it doesn't put them out.... but ask them to make some effort and you'll never hear the end of it....
