Beaches Boscobel Jamaica Review

Recommended Posts

First... thanks for the BDW site and all who participate. Over the past 6 months I learned so much about planning a destination wedding, stole your fabulous ideas, and cheered you all on as you married for happily every after. BDW Rocks!

My husband and I were married at Beaches Boscobel Resort in Ocho Rios Jamaica on January 11, 2009 at 4 in the afternoon. We had 44 guests in attendance. Our wedding day was PERFECT... better than I ever could have hoped for. We would not change anything.

For those of you still to be married at Beaches Boscobel, you can breathe a sigh of relief. You made the PERFECT choice. The wedding coordinator, Kamesha is a dream to work with. She made sure we had everything we wanted from table set up, to a gluten free meal for one of our guests. She is FABULOUS!

Let me get started on the review...

The Bus Ride- B

We arrived in Montego Bay on Thursday afternoon. We checked into the Sandals Lounge and had just started to sip our Red Stripe when we were whisked away to our bus. There were 10 other guests from our wedding already on the bus (guests arriving from Pittsburgh, Dallas, and Phoenix) so we were thrilled to see them all so soon! The bus ride is long... 2 hours. But the driver was entertaining and informative, so the ride went quickly.

The Resort- A

Once we arrived at the resort we were pleasantly surprised to learn that we had been upgraded to an ocean front room. The view was beautiful and the room was very clean. We were very happy with the room.

Our other guests had all reserved Premium Family Suites. There were very large, with balconies, and great views. All of our guests were very happy with their rooms.

The resort itself is beautiful! The pics do not do it justice!

Welcome Party- A

My then FI and I hosted a "Welcome to Our Wedding" Party on Thursday night. We had nametags so that everyone could learn the names of other guests and how they were connected to Hal and I. We met at the Bayside Bar so the kids could swim or watch the stage entertainment. Drinks were plentiful and it was so good to see everyone!

Friday day of Fun!- A

There was so much to do at the resort. Our guests snorkeled, sailed, swam, did the water slides, and relaxed by the beach. The weather was great... not too hot, but enough sun to keep you warm.

Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties

Because so many of our guests were from out of town, we decided to do our parties right at the resort.

The Bachelor Party was held at the Bayside Bar. Sports on the tv... Vodka and Rum shots lined up...

The Bachelorette Party started on the pool deck with a Toilet paper wedding dress contest. A dance line around the pool... then off to the piano bar! My crown/veil says "Spinster No More"

Dunns River Falls Tour- A

In honor of My Aunts 50th Birthdays (Becky and Debbie), we climbed the Dunns River Falls on Saturday morning. We used an outside tour group due to the fact that there were 46 of us and we were trying to keep the cost down. I will send you the website if you want it... just pm me!

As you can see... we had a rowdy group... and the time of our lives!

Rehearsal Dinner- A

Although we had no rehearsal for our ceremony, my FIL really wanted a rehearsal dinner... FIL gets what FIL wants... isn't that what every good DIL says :-) We held the dinner at the Venetian Restaurant. The food was delicious... the best we had at the resort. I had the beef tenderloin, and my husband had the lamb. It was fabulous. Everyone at the table agreed... the best calamari we had ever tasted. Once the dinner was over, we went to the piano bar for a few tunes. Last pic... our official wedding drink... the BBC. This drink was chosen by our guests as their favorite, so don't forget to try one for yourself when you are there!

Ceremony-

Because we had such a large number of guests (44) we chose the East Lawn as our ceremony location. We used just two floral arrangements in the front for two reasons... we felt like more might take away from the beauty of Jamaica... and we were trying to stay in a budget.

My dress was simple, but still a wedding dress. My BMs wore dresses of their choice in the color "pool" which I loved with the tropical surroundings. The BM wore a lime green camp shirt while our fathers and the ring bearer wore yellow. My husband was to wear a carribean blue camp shirt, but we had to find a quick last minute replacement as he shrunk out of 2 previous shirts. Losing 68 pounds will do that :-)

Ceremony cont'd- A+++

My father said the big surprise of the day was the pastor. We were worried the ceremony would feel very "cookie cutter", but it did not. The pastor was warm and personable. We added the sand ceremony for something a little different. My friend read a passage from the bible for us.

We brought our own CD with ceremony music, but the resort had plenty to choose from had we not.

We brought bubbles and a program/fan for each guest. The bubbles were a big hit, especially with the kids!

RECEPTION- A+++

Our reception was held on the Venetian Terrace. The tables were set beautifully. We brought seating cards with us, which the staff set out before the reception.

We hired the DJ for 3 hours...

We chose great food. We had Appleton Rum Shrimp and the Tropical Salad. Our guests had a choice of either Beef Tenderloin or Mahi Mahi as their entree. (Guests do need to choose ahead of time... so either include that on wedding RSVP or call each one and ask). Kids had chicken strips and french fries. For dessert we chose the Pineapple Baked Alaska and it was beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. It was our favorite dessert on the island.

The cake was a white wedding cake. Plain... but still very pretty.

Overall, our wedding weekend at Beaches Boscobel was nothing less than perfect! I am happy to answer questions if you are planning to marry there in the future... it allows me to think back on my perfect day! I have over 1000 pics I am willing to share. I know when I was planning I wanted to see everything I could get my eyes on, so just let me know :-)

After our 4 fabulous days at Beaches... my hubbie and I spent the next 4 days at Sandals Dunn River. We needed a rest :-)

Finally.... DONE!!

Jodi of course I would love to see pictures. Let me know the best way. You post them or I can PM you with my e-mail. Just let me know. Another question. Did you plan the DJ, reception, etc before you went down or when you got there? My TA gave me the name of Renee, but my TA just informed me she was on maternity. Maybe why I haven't heard back from her. The only thing I have in stone in the date and time. Like you 4:00 pm. Please give me advise as to what to do next. Thanks

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
