Moon Dance Cliffs

I got some information from them, but they are mighty expensive.  The cheapest room is $550/night all inclusive for 2 people.  Or, if they don't do all inclusive, it's the $200 but I have to pay $125/pp.  That's more expensive than expensive weddings during wedding season here in NY!  It sucks because the place looks beautiful, so I'm sure it's worth every penny, just out of my budget at this point.

I totally understand!  We live on Long Island, and I have said many times over the last year we have paid what we would have paid to have a wedding here.  But I keep telling myself its not just one day, we will be there for 10 days.  We did not think many people would go because it was expensive, but we gave them a years notice and we ended up with 65 people going.  Our decision was based on the fact that we would basically be the only people there.  There are so many places to choose from, I am sure you will find one that you love.  Good Luck!

You're right and it's also about what you want, not just about saving money.  I wouldn't want to spend $10k on a wedding here in NY even if it was the equivalent of a $40-50k wedding because it's not what I want!  And I think a lot of people do a destination wedding because it's a different theme/style that they're looking for.

So, we just have to search and find something in our budget that we love.  I'm sure it exists, even if it means changing dates.  :)

PS-I live in Queens!

Is anyone here using a travel agent? We just changed resorts and my agent emailed me saying they were rude and refused to work with him. I am not sure if it is a problem with the resort or if it is my agent being rude...we are going to lose 170 bucks in insurance if we drop the agent so we are not sure what to do.

I'm getting married at MDC in March, 2013 and originally we had contacted a travel agent. Our travel agent contacted MDC but it seems like they prefer do handle reservations directly and not through a travel agent. I believe travel agents usually get paid by the resort and MDC does not do that. That's probably why a travel agent wouldn't want to work with MDC but that's just a guess.

I'm very excited to be getting married at MDC. I love the fact that we have the entire resort for our family and friends. We were also worried about the cost but we gave our guests over a year in advance and all the rooms are already reserved by our family and friends. Now I'm working on finding alternative hotels for the overflow guests :) At first I thought a destination wedding would be a little bit less expensive because it would be less guests but I'm finding out the costs are pretty equal by the time you hire a photographer, band/DJ, florists, etc. but I'm sure it is all going to be worth it when I get to spend a long weekend with the people I love the most.

On a side note, I do wish MDC was more flexible. They don't seem to negotiate or 'hook you up' with anything. The guests that are staying outside MDC will have to pay $125 per person (plus 20% so $150) per day to come to MDC to hang out with us that weekend. I was hoping that outside guests would be able to stop by the day after the wedding and join us for a brunch and some drinks but if they want to they have to pay $150 just to come to MDC. yikes!

We booked Moon Dance through Destination Weddings and had no problems. We even received a free night for watching a Webinar on Moon Dance with Destination Weddings. Maybe contact them yourself and ask if there is a problem with using an agent. . They seem to pride themselves on their reputation so I am sure they would discuss the issue with you.  I have seen the owner personally respond to complaints on the trip advisor web site.

LMC1 I agree about the cost. But we look at it like it not just a day, we will be there for 10 days.

We leave in 15 days! Cant wait….

Thats Great!  I will let you know how it goes when we return.  Zip Lining should be so much fun with a group!  I know its very close to your date, and I am not sure if you did room key holders, but I had small business cards printed that say:

Room Key and Money Holder

I take this handy pouch, to have and to hold my key and my tip money from poolside to barstool for sauced or for sober in day and in night until I depart jamaica.  (got the saying from anotehr bride on this site) I placed them in a little water proof plastic container I got from avon to hold rooms keys and stuff. I had to print 100 but only needed 35.  If you need anything like that I would be happy to send them to you . (for free) Keep saying I am going to post them on this site in the buy sell and trade area but I never get a chance.  Anyway if your interested let me know I can send you a picture.

Hi all! I got married at MDC at the end of April. If you are on the fence, do not hesitate! Book it! Every single penny is worth it. They treat you like royalty; our guests are still raving about it. Seriously, best wedding ever! We took everyone on the catamaran and it is totally worth it! Unlimited booze, music, snorkeling and fun! Here's a tip: pay cash and you can barter with the guy and not pay the tax. Good luck everyone and trust Kerry: she is a pro!

Hi Kleonne06 and MALDJ1,

I wish you both the best for your wedding wedding weekends! They are both so close, that is so exciting. My wedding is about 9 months away so I'm still working on all the details, etc. I would love to hear about how the wedding goes so if you're able to post updates after you return that would be so so appreciated! And, if you have any tips or do anything special that the guests really appreciate (like the money/room key holder) I would love to hear about it.

I have one questions, do either of you have quests staying off site? If so, do you have any recommendations on where to have guests stay. We didn't think we would have so many guests be able to come so now we're looking for places for the overflow. I have looked into a few resorts nearby but any suggestions would be great.

Another questions I have is about what do the guests do after the bars close at 11 pm, are you guys purchasing alcohol for after the bars close and taking the party back to the villas or is there enough alcohol in the villas to supply the guests without having to purchase additional alcohol. I'm just a little curious because I want my guests to be entertained and I know a lot of them stay up pretty late and can consume a lot so I'm just trying to be prepared :)

Thanks!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
