Sparkles, I completely agree with you and I'm sorry you had a freak out moment - I myself had one of those this weekend when I didn't see beverages anywhere, but Kerry has assured me that it includes an open bar...

Taovandel, I would definitely ask Kerry about the drinks being billed to the room - I'm sure they could work something out.

I think we all are a bit nervous, but it will all be okay! The place is gorgeous! I'm nervous about Kerry, but today she replied to my wedding outline response (where I attached pictures of ideas I liked) and she actually answered a lot of questions and gave me some good ideas...the only thing is that she responds within the word document which is obnoxious but I think I'm going to email her a regular email and that will most likely put a stop to it.

I am going to go ahead and bring tulle for decorating my chairs and the signing table because I want the color to match my bridesmaids dresses - I was worried that this would be a problem but Kerry said that was a great idea and to go for it!

I think Kerry is new and still getting the hand of things. I know it's frustrating to not get answers, but to put everyone at ease, when I was looking at my wedding in Mexico there were some hotels that wouldn't even let you email the coordinator until a month before your wedding! So at least we don't have to deal with that! Hopefully Kerry will become a bit more familiar with the process and be a help to us!

I also wanted to say that there's strength in numbers! So if we all continue to have problems with Kerry, I say we ask to speak to Linus. I mean, we are putting down a lot of money and we deserve top treatment! This is not a 2 star hotel - this is a luxurious resort! I'm also starting to get the feeling that I'm being nickeled and dimed - anyone else get that feeling? - especially with the chairs and table rental - it just seems silly to me since they have the chairs and table there - I can understand a set-up fee, but most resorts include this so it kind of bothers me - nothing big, but sometimes it's the little things that get to you, you know?

In the end, we are all in this together and we are the first ones to have our wedding at this resort so there will be some adjustments needed, but we can do it! I have no doubt every single one of our weddings will be perfect!

Hugs,

Claudette

Sparkles, have you heard back yet from Paula?

I'm begining to get a bit worried - I emailed them twice - the first time about 2 weeks ago and then again on Friday - and I still haven't heard back from them - I'm worried that they're booked for my date! Ahh!

Anyone know of any other photographer besides Sungold and Saab?

Thanks!

Claudette

One more thing ladies,

My FI was getting upset because he saw me getting upset and he was thinking that maybe we should all start writing emails to Kerry or whoever is our contact at Moon Dance Cliffs, and point out the discrepancies between the pricing listed on their website and the pricing that we've been quoted...we don't have to do this now, but it's something to think about, so I wanted to throw it out there...

Just as an example, Kerry was saying that the DJ they use is Sound Illusion and it's $200/hr for a 4 hour minimum...on their website it says $150/hr for a 3 hr minimum and Paul from Sound Illusion emailed directly and said his price would be $165/hr for 4 hours! And that this would be for music only! No MCing!

I think it's all a bit disorganized and if the DJ is not going to be MCing, then I'll just have a recorded CD, you know? And what about the additional $35/hour - is Moon Dance Cliffs pocketing this as a referral bonus?

Anyway, just wanted to know your thoughts on this - so far I haven't said anything but it's starting to get to me...

Thats what Kim told me too, but then I got an email from Kerry saying that Linus is still my coordinator for the day of the wedding.. but that she will be doing all of the planning/emailing up to that day. UGH. Let me know if the same thing happens to you!

I would say something if those prices are not what was quoted on their site. As long as they have quoted you something, they should give you that price even if the pricing has now increased. I would talk to Kim about anything to do with the pricing since that office is the one dealing with it. Have you looked into any other DJs in the area. It seems like this kind of rip-off goes on all over Jamaica no matter if your resort is a 1* or a 5* it is just their way of life there. Maybe you could figure out if anyone else is cheaper and they try and get them to drop their prices by threating to use another DJ instead. Where are your getting you chair ties, etc...from? I wonder if it would be cheaper to just buy them at home and bring them. Keep us updated on everything & good luck!

No, that is the only one. The resort is very small and the wedding lawn is pretty huge considering the size of the rest of the resort! It's off to the side away from the pool so it's not like random people will be a problem. Wait until you guys see this wedding gazebo in person...it's HUGE...like 16 feet tall, at least!!! It's awesome looking! The area is not done justice in pictures!

MDC has updated their site to include actual pictures if you click on a link at the bottom right hand corner of their main page!!! It has come SOOOO FAR since Oct!!! It looks like all they need to do now is plant the flowers and bushes etc..

Hey everyone,

Yeah, I got the same message from Miriam: Linus is my coordinator, but Kerry is doing all the work up to the wedding date...

I haven't said anything about the pricing - I mean, weddings are the perfect opportunity to make money and that's what everyone does! There's actually a very hilarious British skit on youtube that shows just this!

YouTube - "Wedding cake" from Man Stroke Woman

It will definitely make you laugh! wink.gif

I am definitely going to bring my own tulle - more to match the bridesmaids dresses than anything else, but I'm pretty sure you can find some great deals out there - I had a website from when I was planning in Mexico and was going to order my tulle from there - I have it saved on my other computer so I will send you the link as soon as I get it.

A girl on this forum brought her own tulle for her Dreams Tulum wedding and it just looked so beautiful! Not to say that the resort wouldn't do a good job with the ribbons, I'm sure they would, but I just want to already know the exact color and there not be any surprises!

This might seem a bit on the "cheap" side, but the more I think about a DJ, the more I think I'm just going to bring my IPOD - I mean, when Paul from Sound Illusion emailed me, he told me he does not do any MCing...he specifically said in his email, I simply play your song list - I was like, well then, why are you so expensive?! And if that's all the DJ is doing, I would rather spend a little extra time choosing my songs, downloading them on my IPOD and just playing it throughout the system.

As far as MCing, I've talked to a lot of brides about this and many have said that they preferred having a family member/friend do this - many have said that it's a nice way to bring a family member into the wedding and you have no problems with them messing up your names, etc....so I'm also thinking about doing that as well. I have two sisters and their husbands aren't groomsmen and I think one of them would be a great MC!

So those are my current thoughts...

Keep you all posted!

Hugs,

Claudette

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
