Do you have bridesmaids?!? I'm torn!

Recommended Posts

Well we are 18 months away and I really been thinking if we should have a bridal party. I have one close friend that was invited to the wedding. The rest of the 50 guests are family.

Did you have a bridal party? We were thinking of a sibling only wedding party, but part of me wants to forgo to whole things and have honorary bridesmaids that would just help...

what do you guys think? Is the stress worth it... If I do choose a bridal party when should I ask?

I originally started with 6 bridesmaids/groomsmen.

As my wedding attendance dwindles, I don't know if I will have bridesmaids anymore. I think it would look silly having say 20 guests and 12 people in the bridal party. (I had 65 guests confirmed at least 30 have backed out and the other 30 have yet to make significant payments and the wedding is in June)

Honorary bridesmaids are the new black! Many people are doing that. Go with what makes you the most comfortable. There are no rules to weddings. You can whatever you want!

We're not having any bridesmaids or groomsmen. We figured it would be an easy way to save some money as we won't have to pay for their dresses, hair, etc. I was engaged before and had asked some of my cousins to stand for me but now, I probably would ask one of my friends instead. The FI has 2 brothers, so how do you choose one over the other to be the "best man". It's less complicated for us this way.

Whatever you decide to do, I'm sure will be the right thing.

I am not having bridesmaids, but an all-child wedding party. We just bought 6 white outfits for our nieces and nephews, who will be flowergirls, ring and bible bearers. This decision came out of the fact that we did not want anyone to feel pressured to attend our wedding - if we made them a part of the wedding party, they may have felt obligated to go. I also did not want the stress of picking fabric and having dresses made to fit everyone's body type or shopping for dresses that fit everyone's ideas and preferences. However, if you choose easy going people, this may not be a problem. As people were spending the $ to come with us, we did not want to add the burden of buying outfits as well. We are having approx. 35 guests...and I think the kids (ages 3 - 10) will look adorable...please just pray no one needs a nap :)

We are having a BP.. it started off with 5 BM's and 5 GM's; it has already dwindled to 3 of each. =) And, our BP is all friends with one of my best friends as the MOH. I have one honorary BM who will do a reading or something for us.

For me, I wanted BM's for the comraderie and the help... it gives us all an excuse to get together regularly and have some fun while doing wedding stuff (or more likely, drink wine!). He he..

I think that you are okay either way. I think that there is something so romantic about just seeing 2 people on the beach getting married; standing up for themselves. It's almost like a romantic elopement with an audience of friends and family.

One of the biggest things you see brides vent about are their wedding party. They never help out as much as they should and half the time the bride ends up taking care of them. The nice thing about a destination wedding is supposed to be that it is non-traditional so you make the rules and it is supposed to be stress-free... ok, not free but low stress, lol. I had a MOH and BM and that was it. This way all of the guests can sit back, relax and enjoy the show. Your family and good friends will help out no matter what role they are playing.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
