Dazed and confused

Taylor here.

I'm in the beginning of planning a destination wedding 'somewhere warm' in late 2009 or early/mid 2010. I'm in Northern Ontario and it's -32C today - I would really like to go somewhere, anywhere warm.

I unfortunately have a compulsion to 'over-research' my decisions and this tendency is leaving me rather overwhelmed. Jamaica, hawaii, mexico...ugh. The travel agents were most unhelpful unless I have a specific date and place in mind. So that's why I am here.

Welcome Taylor!

I did the same thing and "over-researched" and became so overwhelmed! For us we had to consider who was going and what we were actually looking for in the whole package so we finally picked Cuba. Things will get easier though and more fun once you choose a spot.

I am from Labrador and with the windchill here it is -42 today (and expected all week),so I totally know what you are saying about looking forward to going to a warm place!

Hi Taylor!

I guess one question that would help you is, what are your priorities? Do you want a place on the caribbean with blue water and powdery white sand? A place close to ruins? (Mayan area), do youy guests like fishing? (Cabo and Puerto Vallarta), attracted to any culture? (Cuba, Mexico, Jamaica) What kind of side activities do you see you and your guests doing while at your wedding location?

Welcome aboard and happy planning!

I would start with what you and youfr FI likes. Then take into consideration budget, your likenesses (beaches, water, activities, etc) and narrow down your search that way. Also , consider any language challenges you may have and if this would be a source of frustration with some of your elderly guests. Do what makes YOU most happy and the majority of your guests. Remember you cannot please everyone. Good luck to you

Hey Taylor

I'm also looking at end of '09 or early '10. Only -16 here!! I find that I am also 'over-researching' however I have found some great tips on this site!!!

I am not much of a traveler however i was recently in Cancun and MayanR a few months ago for business and loved it there. I'm definitely leaning towards Mexico!

Congratulations!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
