I didn't give much thought to this until I read through some of the "unread posts" on BDW... .I'm getting married on May 11th 2009, and not a single person has booked or made any type of reservations... (although I have about 30 people who say they are planning on coming). To be fair, we haven't made our hotel or airline reservations yet either (hoping for cheaper rates), but I started to panic reading through posts that say "only 20 people have booked, and I'm getting married June 2009!!!" or what-not. Just wondering if I should start panicking, start harrassing my guests, or just wait a a bit longer. I just started to think: OMG, what if no one comeshuh.gif So, what I guess I'm fishing for, is when did people start booking for you guys?

I wouldn't worry! I am getting married April 26 and up until yesterday only 3 people had booked. Between yesterday and today we have 20 more! Flights came down in price a lot, as did the hotel. I sent out a quick "no pressure" email this morning just letting people know about these new fares. I finally booked mine today! Good luck!

I wouldn't worry, but I would be looking into flights soon. May is the beginning of summer for college students and they like to go away! Also there have been a few members who thought they would wait, and then when they did need to go ahead and buy they were booked, and some have even had issues w/ their resort being booked especially if the resort is having a wedding the same week as you! Something to look into. I used to work for the airlines and I recommend the best time to buy tickets is about 5 months out, they may drop a little between 5 months and your date, but w/ a wedding its something that I personally wouldn't risk.

 

Have you at least blocked rooms at your hotel?

I don't think it's abnormal at all; don't stress!!!

 

For my situation, my TA was able to get super discounted rates; but she could only hold them for 2 weeks. So, I put the word out there and literally forced our BP and parents to place their deposits on the resort so they could get the better rate. Families and other friends weren't ready to do it; so I told them they could book whenever they want; but I can't guarantee their rates and the longer they wait - the more of a chance they are taking that the prices may escalate.

 

FI and I booked our flights back in October; because we had the $$ and the prices were great. Some of the BP booked theirs; others haven't.

 

Basically, we are leaving the rest up to our guests to make their reservations. We sent STD's with newsletters; are sending invites with cards incl travel information and we will send out a newsletter 2 months prior to the wedding.

 

If they book, then fabulous .. if not, then that's okay too! As long as FI and I are there (plus our BP and parents) .. then I am happy!

Don't stress... but I'm with Amy saying to email/mail out a non-pushy note that prices are down and it would be good to think about booking.

When did you set your RSVP at? Just a warning, you wont get all of your RSVPs back... and things change a lot up until the month before.

 

There is a website called Farecast.com that tells you when a good time to book is. It will send you email updates when fares go down which is nice, and a good one to pass along to guests.

If you are getting married at a resort and you know you are staying there, Id start booking that for sure. They could fill up around that time. Plus they usually give preference to room blocks. But just don't do a room block if you have to guarantee those rooms! I did that and people backed out so I am paying for empty rooms!

      Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010.       Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations.
